LeBron James Would Pursue NFL Career if There's an NBA Lockout (Satire)

Andrew PierluissiAug 13, 2010

After comments made by Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall, the biggest acquisition for the Miami Heat in the 2010 Free Agent Extravaganza, LeBron James, indicated that in event of an NBA lockout next year, he would leave the Miami Heat and join an NFL team.

“My first team would be the Browns and my second would be the Dolphins.”

When asked about his preference to return to Cleveland, James responded: “The Browns will be a better choice because of the welcome home cheer I’ll get—a couple of boos at first. Or maybe a lot of boos.  Maybe not even a welcome cheer at all…”

When asked about choosing to play for the Dolphins, James indicated: “The Dolphins make sense because they are close to home.  I mean to work, you know, with the Miami Heat… because my home is in Akron.  I love Akron and my great fans!  Oh, and I love Cleveland too…”

LeBron seemed very confident of his ability to play wide receiver in the NFL at a competitive level after some experience playing football during his high school years.

“I am going to be on an NFL team. Seriously. I know people remember my years as an all-state wide receiver in Ohio. I even led my high school team to the state semifinals as a junior. That’s more than I did with the Cavaliers last year!”

LeBron James, who signed a six-year, $110 million contract, is not confident about the NBA having a 2011-2012 NBA season.

“There’s not going to be any basketball. If there’s a lockout, I have to find a job. I will come and play for the minimum.  I just need the minimum.  Not for free. Minimum. I need to pay for my new $49.5 million home in Miami. I meant property, not home. Home is in Akron.”

When asked about winning a possible championship ring with an NFL team, LeBron indicated that the right team needs to be put together.

“One man can not win a ring by himself. You need the right pieces.  I have heard Dwayne Wade used to tear defenses apart playing running back. Now if we can get Chris Bosh to throw a football accurately, now that’s a team that can put me in position for multiple championships in the next few years.”

Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade were not very selective with their responses. “Running back?  What?”, said Wade. “I am not going to Cleveland. They burn merchandise there.  I’m trying to grow in the market, man.”, added Bosh.
