Tiger Woods: Could His Career Be Over?

Kelsey GivensAug 13, 2010

For the last several years, Tiger Woods has dominated the game of golf.

Recently, however, Woods has been in the bottom rankings of tournaments and has turned in the worst performances of his career.

Could these be signs that Woods' golf career is over?

For a golfer who usually finishes tournaments near the top of the leader board, Woods has been finishing near the bottom of the list in the last few tournaments he has played in.

At the 2010 British Open, he finished in a four-way tie for 23rd, coming in just three strokes under par.

In the 2010 Bridgestone Invitational, Woods turned in one of his worst performances yet, placing 78th in the tournament, and coming in 18 strokes over par.

In the first round of the PGA Championship, which began on Aug. 12, Tiger came in only one stroke under par and is so far placed at No. 24 on the leader board.

With performances like these from a player who usually doesn’t finish outside of the top ten, these could be signs that Woods’ career may be coming to a close.

Since the news broke about Woods’ mistresses and affairs, his golf game has seemed to take a major hit. It wasn’t until all of his personal problems became public, that his golf game began to go downhill.

It is easy to understand how such a huge personal situation could distract him from his career. Until Woods can settle all of the problems in his personal life, his golf game will surely continue to fade.

Even if he does settle the problems in his personal life, it may not be enough to bring back his winning golf game.

The media frenzy that surrounded Woods for all of those months has dulled considerably, and yet his game still continues to suffer.

This could prove that no matter what Woods does, his golfing abilities will never come back to what they used to be.

The PGA Tournament will be a good indication of whether his career is truly nearing its end.

If he can finish on or near the top, he could possibly make a comeback with his career, but if he turns in another poor performance, it will be a sure sign that his career is done.

Looking at all the recent signs, it seems that Woods’ golfing career may truly be over and the reign of Tiger Woods over golf may be coming to a close.
