Fantasy Football Brothers 2010 RB Positional Awards
Fantasy Football Brother’s gives out our Pre-Season Running Back Awards. You’ll notice we don’t agree on everything and some of us might like a player more than we should. Case in point with Bill and Larry Johnson.
It got to the point last year where we had to have Larry Johnson’s name removed from the database. Thanks for doing that Eric. Every year, we start our rankings by combining our ranks. Which leads to a ton of discussion, but also questioning each others sanity. You always hear you ranked Clinton Portis how low? Ryan Grant how high? That is what makes fantasy football great. You can have a discussion about the same player, and have two completely different opinions and two ranks that are far apart, with each having a great reason why they have ranked them the way they have.

RB too high: Paul has an interesting selection of Steven Jackson. When asked, Paul stated, “He can’t do everything over there.” I have to say I agree, there has to come a time when the pounding starts to take a toll, if it hasn’t already with recent back surgery.
RB too low: Paul and Rob’s selection of Ryan Grant is right on for a guy that has been over 1,200 yards the last two season. Did you know he had 11 TD’s last season, care to move him up your ranks now?
RB MVP: The Brother’s are split between Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson. Rob and Bill said that no back follows up a record breaking season with another record breaking season. They also like that Peterson has been over 1,300 yards and has had 10 or more TD’s every season. Paul and Sean stated that Chris Johnson is a rarity amongst backs, with his blend of speed and receiving skills. We have to agree.
RB Sleeper: Bill’s selection of Clinton Portis never ceases to amaze me….since he couldn’t have Larry Johnson, he now hitches himself to the Portis train…..All Aboard! Anyone?
RB Super Sleeper: Bill going with Deji Karim is quite the super sleeper. When asked why Bill likes Karim he responded, "You have got to like a guy that could unseat MJD's backup." That would be Rashad Jennings, who happens to be Rob's Never Heard of running back.
RB Bust: As you can see Rob and Paul totally disagree with Bill about Clinton Portis. Although Rob always say,”I can’t believe Portis is only 29 years old. It feels like he’s been in the league forever.”
Rookie Now: It was unanimous across the board, the Brother’s believe Ryan Mathews is the rookie to have this season. He is scheduled to have at least 250+ carries and should see at least 35 catches.
Rookie Later: Sean’s selection of Jahvid Best goes across the grain of the other Brother’s who still believe Ryan Mathews is the player to have long term. Sean points out Best’s speed and ability to make the big play. He also thinks that the Lions will use him much the same way the Titan’s use Chris Johnson, on passes out in the flat and getting him into space where he can use his speed, that is where he is most dangerous.
Comeback: Paul’s selection of Steve Slaton is interesting. Slaton had a pretty serious neck injury and underwent surgery in January. He will be ready for the start of the season. If he can fix the fumbling problems that plagued him last season, he could be a bargain in fantasy drafts. Little known fact: He had 44 catches in only 11 games last season.
Never Heard Of: Paul’s selection of James Starks could be right on. All he has in front of him is Brandon Jackson, the same Brandon Jackson who averaged 3.0 yards per carry. Give the rookie from Buffalo time to get healthy and transition to the NFL game and he will be explosive. Many have compared his running style to Steven Jackson’s.
Breakthrough: Paul and Rob agree that Beanie Wells is primed for a breakthrough year. They cite his somewhat easy schedule and the fact that the Cardinals will attempt to balance out their offense with Matt Leinart at the helm. This means more carries for Wells which should lead to more production, which leads to more fantasy points. We like his situation. Bill and Sean both think Pierre Thomas is in for a breakout year. There is no doubt he has been productive the last two seasons, averaging 10 TD’s a season for the last two years. He will also see more carries with Mike Bell in Philadelphia, which should lead to more production. We like both backs to have solid seasons.
P.P. R. Bump: Sean and Paul agree on Ray Rice getting a stock bump in P.P.R. leagues. He had an insane 78 receptions last season. While he won’t get that many with Anquan Boldin in town, it does tell you that Joe Flacco is comfortable throwing him the ball out of the backfield. Stock bump indeed!
Wide Receivers are coming soon!
