Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather: Dream Undercard for the Superfight

Troy SparksAug 12, 2010

We know that the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao superfight will be super.

However, every main event needs an opening act.

Let's make that two opening acts.

I'd pay to see the two undercards that should precede Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

I might have some boxing fans that disagree with me on these warm-up fights, but that's okay.

I'm throwing my suggestions out there, so here we go.

In the first undercard fight, I'd like to see Devon Alexander fight Timothy Bradley for Bradley's light welterweight title.

Since Alexander wants Bradley bad, let him prove that he beat the top dog in the division.

That will stop Alexander from running his mouth—if he loses to Bradley.

I'd even call that fight right now.

As I said before, Bradley should concentrate on the fighters who are possible contenders in the division. He can forget about Pacquiao because that fight ain't happening.

On the other hand, Alexander can climb up the ladder in the division with a signature win over Bradley.

The other undercard I'd like to see is the fight between two aging veterans who are likely Hall of Fame candidates.

Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley are still kicking strong.

Both fighters are staring at father time as they approach 40-years-old.

I have a feeling that there will be less interest in that undercard.

Not many people want to see two old guys duke it out.

The two fighters do have one thing in common though.

Marquez wants a third fight with Pacquiao, and Mosely wants a piece of him too.

I watched a little of the two Marquez fights against Pacquiao.

The Pac-Man is super quick with his hands.

Pacquiao was patient and picked the right time to throw his blows against Marquez in the first round.

Marquez was dropped three times in one fight and once in the other.

Mayweather needs to work on a new defense against Pacquiao because the old way of defending him won't work.

Plus, it would be embarrassing if Floyd Jr. gets dropped at least once to the canvas by Pac-Man.

The best undercard between these two bouts, if I had to pick one, would be the Alexander vs. Bradley match.
