Plaxico Burress: Just the Plax, Ma'am
Itโs Plaxico Burressโ 32nd birthday today! You can bet he didnโt ask for a handgun and sweatpants.
The enigmatic Burress is in the news for reportedly applying for work release from prison for the second time. Heโs expecting to hear by the end of the month if his request will be granted.
So, what should a dynasty league owner do regarding Plaxico? Letโs take a quick look at a player whom many dynasty owners have simply forgotten about.

Plaxicoโs antics are well chronicled. Theyโre highlighted by his accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound and subsequent imprisonment. His on the field career has had its share of highs and lows as well, including a Super Bowl winning catch and constant bouts of inconsistency.
If Burressโ request is granted, itโs unlikely heโd be able to latch on to a team at the end of the month. Itโs simply too late for a team to take this kind of a flyer on a player like Burress, even considering his talent.
Itโs even unclear if heโd be given the ability to work on weekends. If thatโs the case, heโd have to find a team who plays a whole bunch on Monday Night Football.
The most likely scenario weโll see unfold is Burress finishing his prison term and latching on to a team for the 2011 season. ย You can bet heโll have no shortage of suitors from teams who are looking for a red zone target and play-maker. In fact, you could probably just list the Bengals as โinterested,โ just because he fits in more ways than one.
From a dynasty league perspective, itโs simply not worth putting Plaxico on your roster. This season is sure to bring us many young prospects who are much more roster worthy.
When you consider Burress has always been a fringe No. 2 wide receiver in fantasy and will likely be 34 when he plays again, itโs just simply not worth the headache.
