Leo ReyesAug 12, 2010

Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao has regained his top post as Yahoo! Sports pound-for-pound king, according to Kevin lole of Yahoo! Sports.

Pacquiao lost to Mayweather last May in the Yahoo! rankings, but the Filipino boxer managed to keep his No. 1 ranking in the Ring Magazine ranking.

Pacquiao is now ranked number one in both Yahoo! Sports and Ring Magazine pound-for-pound rankings while Mayweather kept his second place ranking in Ring Magazine, but lost his title as Yahoo! Sports pound-for-pound king in the latest vote tally.

According to Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole, the congressman from Sarangani province of the Philippines received 21 of 36 first place votes for a total of 345 points based on their polling this August.

“Mayweather let pass an opportunity to fight Pacquiao on Nov. 13, with one of his advisors denying negotiations had ever taken place despite the fact that promoter Bob Arum and HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg insisted they had,” said Iole in his report.

“Voters clearly were unhappy with Mayweather’s choice and one left him off of his ballot entirely as a result,” he added.

In the Yahoo! Sports latest ranking, Paul Williams landed at No. 3 while Juan Manuel Marquez and Chad Dawson shared the fourth and fifth place respectively.

Sergio Martinez took the sixth place followed by Tim Bradley who was ranked seventh. Heavyweight Wladimir Kitschko got the eighth spot, while Juan Manuel Lopez and Andre Ward shared the ninth and 10th place respectively.

On the Ring Magazine Ranking, Pacquiao is still on top of the list followed by Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez for the second and third spots respectively.
