Miami Dolphins Work Out Cornerbacks Frank Walker, Matterral Richardson

Following the recent ankle injury to cornerback Evan Oglesby and Will Allen's slowed recovery from a torn ACL, the Miami Dolphins worked out free-agent cornerbacks Frank Walker and Matterral Richardson on Wednesday.

Frank Walker

A sixth-round pick by the New York Giants in 2003, Walker played four seasons with the Giants, one in Green Bay, and spent the past two years in Baltimore.

The 29-year-old Walker has appeared in 82 games (15 starts) in six pro seasons, totaling 134 tackles, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and 20 pass deflections.

Recently drafted by the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks, Walker has expressed a desire to remain in the NFL, but has received scant interest this offseason.

Walker's most recent employer—the Baltimore Ravens—weren't very happy with his recent play, and have yet to express interest in a reunion despite significant injuries to a handful of their current cornerbacks.

Walker tweeted Wednesday night that his workout went well, although it doesn't appear a contract is imminent.

Matterral Richardson

Undrafted out of Arkansas in 2008, Richardson was signed by the Washington Redskins and spent time on their practice squad. He was signed to the Houston Texans' active roster in November, but did not appear in a game.

After being released by the Texans during final cuts in 2009, Richardson played for the UFL's New York Sentinels in 2009 and finished the NFL season on the Cleveland Browns' practice squad.

 Re-signed by the Browns in the 2010 offseason, Richardson was waived after the NFL Draft in late April.

Conclusion

It's unknown at this point if the Dolphins are interested in signing either player, and a roster spot would have to be cleared in order to do so.

It's possible the Dolphins could waive/injured Oglesby to make room for a new corner on the roster.

Regardless of which one the Dolphins end up signing, if they sign either, I wouldn't predict either to make the team.

Will Allen can't be placed on PUP anymore, meaning he should be among the five active cornerbacks. I expect Jason Allen to make the roster because of his stellar special teams play, while rookie fifth-rounder Nolan Carroll is having a fine camp and should round out the position.
