Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Depth Chart Has Few Surprises

Tom EdringtonAug 11, 2010

The Buccaneers have come up with their league-ordered initial depth chart of the 2010 season and it gives us a glimpse of what could be your opening day lineup.

The one thing that stands out immediately is that veteran Michael Clayton, the oft-criticized wide receiver, might be in jeopardy when the final cut down comes.

Clayton is listed fourth on the depth chart at the "Y" receiver position behind Maurice Stovall, Sammie Stroughter, and Arrelious Benn. Clayton is basically counted as the "other guy" along with Preston Parker, who could be a candidate for the practice squad.

Mike Williams is your starter for now at the "X" receiver followed by Reggie Brown, Michael Spurlock, Terrance Nunn and Chris Brooks.

Jeremy Zuttah is still listed as the starter at left guard but it's just a matter of time before Keydrick Vincent wins that job.

Here's a quick glance at the charts for Saturday night's contest against the Miami Dolphins:

Note that Cody Grimm has already been moved to the backup position behind starter Tanard Jackson at free safety and that Dekoda Watson is already the backup behind Quincy Black at outside linebacker.

Make no mistake that this regime LOVES its draft picks from this year and last.

It all starts Saturday night in Miami. Doesn't look like there are that many raging battles as far as the starters. It's just a matter of Michael Clayton.

Does he stay, or does Mark Dominik finally pull the plug on the most over-paid, least productive receiver in camp?
