Wayne Rooney: 10 Things He Has To Do for the Red Devils To Win the EPL

Andrew JordanAug 11, 2010

After his greatest season ever in the English Premier League last season, Manchester United hitman Wayne Rooney is now expected to help lead the Red Devils back into position to win their fourth Premier League title in five seasons.

With that in mind, here are the 10 things Wayne Rooney has to do for the Red Devils to Win the EPL.

Reason One: Be More of a Team Player

1 of 10

Last year, Wayne Rooney did do a lot for his team, but he must make sure that he does more for Manchester United this year than he did last season.

That means being sure to build stronger links with everyone on Manchester United and helping out on all facets of his game.

Reason Two: Avoid Injury

2 of 10

Of course being the top player that he is, Rooney must also be sure to avoid injury at all cost.

Rooney has suffered several major injuries already in his career (including an injury pictured on this slide against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season).

And it is up to Rooney to make sure that he does not miss a significant part of the season again this year.

Reason Three: Become a Bigger Leader

3 of 10

Already a captain last year for England in a friendly against Brazil, he has captained Man United several times in the Champions League over the last several seasons, but Wayne Rooney must become a bigger leader.

That obviously does not mean Rooney needs to captain anyone, but he should be able to become a bigger leader than before and help to become a central figure on United with Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and Ryan Giggs all going to retire in the next several seasons.

Reason Four :Provide More Assists

4 of 10

Last season, Wayne Rooney did score 34 goals, but he only had seven assists, a far cry from his 12 assists gained in the 2008-2009 season.

It is best for Rooney to feed his fellow strikers instead of wasting a chance that he has no chance of scoring on when there is an open teammate, and with Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez both having great preseasons, he should start to look to pass more often.

Reason Five: Accomodate the Styles of the Other Strikers

5 of 10

With Dimitar Berbatov (a striker Rooney has never worked well with) and Javier Hernandez (who is playing his first season outside of Mexico) it will be interesting to see how Rooney can accommodate the other styles.

Of course by doing this, Man United will be extremely difficult to beat with a great goal-scoring attack, and it is up to Rooney to make everything work.

Reason Six: Help Make Javier Hernandez Great

6 of 10

The biggest signing by Manchester United last summer was the signing of Javier Hernandez from C.D. Guadalajara before Hernandez made his star with Mexico in the World Cup.

The signing of Hernandez has looked great for the Red Devils so far, and Rooney must help "Chicharito" greater by teaching him even more this upcoming season.

Reason Seven: Work Extra Hard With Dimitar Berbatov To Make Things Right

7 of 10

A major problem that has existed with Manchester United in the last two seasons has been the inability of Dimitar Berbatov to fully work to the best of his ability to make Manchester United's attacking next to unstoppable.

Even though many want Berbatov out, Berbatov has had a great preseason and it is up to Wayne Rooney to fully work with the Bulgarian to form a greater attacking front between the two.

Reason Eight: Use His World Cup Performance As Motivation

8 of 10

After a terrible run in the World Cup in which he became the number one reason why England did as bad as they did, Wayne Rooney will now be heckled whenever he goes into any away stadium in the Premier League this season.

So, Rooney must use that booing as motivation to do better as he looks to continue his great season in England from last year before the World Cup.

Reason Nine: Influence Sir Alex Ferguson to Make More Signings

9 of 10

Before the season starts, Wayne Rooney must try to get manager Sir Alex Ferguson to attempt to make more signings for a player such as Mesut Ozil.

Even though Ferguson wants to build United with youth players (something the Scotsman has done throughout his 24-year reign at the club) a player such as an Ozil would be huge for United as they continue to move forward.

Reason 10: Just Leave Everything on the Pitch

10 of 10

The best thing that Wayne Rooney can do for Manchester United will be to just show that he is the ultimate player and leave everything he has on the pitch during every match.

Of course, Rooney has always put 110 percent into each match, but by doing this again, Rooney will show that he truly is a team-first player, and he will be the deciding factor in Manchester United winning their fourth Premier League in five seasons.
