Dallas Cowboys Injury Report: August 10th

Derek MajorAug 10, 2010

The Cowboys play their second game of the preseason against the Raiders in just two days, but they're suffering from injuries at two key positions as well as other individual ones.

Tight End John Phillips is out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in the second quarter of Sunday's game. Phillips will have surgery in a couple weeks once the swelling in his knee is down. This is a significant blow for the Cowboys as Phillips was pushing for more playing time after coming on late last season when Martellus Bennett missed a few games.

Backup tight end Scott Sicko, who took Phillips' place on Sunday night, suffered a concussion and his status for Thursday is unclear; also first year tight end Kevin Brock severely sprained his ankle and is also expected to miss the rest of the preseason.

Head coach Wade Phillips had this to say on the tight end depth, "We're going to have to pick up some tight ends. We're particularly down tight-end wise. I would say we'll probably try to pick up a tight end."

Phillips hopes Bennett can play most of the first half Thursday once Jason Witten gets a series or two under his belt.

The cornerback position is also down a few players after Sunday's game. Cletus Gordon, who was the front runner for the fourth cornerback job, strained his neck on Sunday and his status is uncertain for Thursday night

Rookie Bryan McCann suffered a concussion during a punt return and also didn't finish the game, leaving rookie Jamar Wall and Orlando Scandrick to play more snaps than they were supposed to along with Teddy Williams, who was a college track star and barely knew the defense.

Lineman Alex Barron sprained his ankle during the game and was wearing a walking boot yesterday, but Phillips hasn't ruled him out of Thursday's game just yet.

Linebacker Sean Lee and safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah are expected to see their first action of the season on Thursday if all goes well in practice this week. Safety Pat Watkins' status is still unknown as well as backup guard Montrae Holland.
