Fantasy Football 2010 NFL Sleeper: Houston Texans RB Arian Foster

Sean E. DouglasAug 10, 2010

Even though fantasy owners continue to give Arian Foster little love compared to Steve Slaton and Ben Tate this summer, he is poised to be the Texans' starting runner come Week One. The second year running back has done nothing but continue to build on his strong finish to the 2009 season, and that is why he is primed for success.

With Slaton reduced to a third down role because of health issues (neck), and with Tate’s inability to pick up the Texans’ offense, it is Foster who should receive a hefty bulk of the Texans' work load early on.

Houston’s coaching staff can be one of the hardest to figure out for fantasy owners, as it flip-flopped all last season on which running back would be the go-to guy.

This issue is a good reason why fantasy owners should wait until the later rounds of the draft to select Foster, but if he should succeed early on you will be happy he’s on your depth chart.

Just Ask MJD

Recently, Maurice Jones-Drew discussed Foster as a sleeper, and MJD noted that he thought Foster is a great fit for the Texans run-blocking style.

For my money, any running back who apologizes to his fantasy owners after a game for not scoring a touchdown is a good guy. Since we both see eye-to-eye on Foster it only makes me like Little Hercules even more.

2010 Fantasy Projection for Arian Foster

As noted before it is a good idea to wait on Foster as good depth for your squad towards the back half of your draft. At the very least Foster should provide you a nice option to start on bye weeks and could end up as a solid flex play option for 2010.

Anytime you can find a good buy-low starting running back on a projected winning team, you need to get those players on your squad. Take Foster and feel good about this selection.
