Randy Orton: WWE's Main Event Jobber!

Randy RileyAug 10, 2010

The title is chock full of irony, I agree. How can someone be a main event superstar in the world of professional wrestling and be a jobber? Ask WWE's apex predator, The Viper, Randy Orton.

The man continues to garner arguably the biggest positive crowd reaction from the WWE Universe, both on television and at house show events. His recent decision to join Twitter was due to the fact that he was trending worldwide following RAW for almost an entire day. I can say without question, he is as over as anyone could want to be with fans.

That being said, The Viper is a superstar with one of, if not, the worst PPV record in the WWE. In 2010 alone, with more than half the year's PPV in the books, Orton only has one pinfall victory to his name, against The Legacy at Wrestlemania. Beyond that, he has consistently lost.

Sheamus defeated him at the Royal Rumble; Orton lost in the Elimination Chamber; Jack Swagger defeated him at Extreme Rules; A no-contest ended his singles match with Edge at Over The Limit; Orton lost at Fatal 4-Way; and came up short at Money in the Bank.

Does that at all sound like someone who is being called "the face" of the company? WWE has some mid-card wrestlers with better PPV records at the moment. And come this Sunday, Orton can add yet another loss.

WWE will use Orton to continue and build Sheamus. My prediction at the moment (following events on the latest edition of RAW) is that Orton will either lose clean or win the match via disqualification, since he said he will beat Sheamus but Sheamus guaranteed he will still be WWE champion next week.

WWE is all about building the young stars of tomorrow, which is a funny statement in itself seeing as how Orton is only thirty years young with at least a decade ahead of him. The biggest worry now is how long can WWE continue to string the fans along in cheering for Orton and making him look like a powerful force when they continuously book him to lose major feuds and countless championship opportunities.

Randy Orton is indeed WWE's best main event jobber and it doesn't look like he will be earning any solid wins in the near future. Please comment and take the poll so we can discuss this issue.
