Jordan Palmer, J.P. Losman & Top 10 NFL Scrubs to Get TV Time This Month

RM HeroldAug 9, 2010

We know him because he has good genes and good luck.

Good genes because he was athletic enough to make it to the pros.

Good luck because his big brother is the starting quarterback for the team and the best that it has had, arguably, in 20 years.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Jordan Palmer.

And in the next few weeks you will meet several others who have either good genes, good luck, or both. But you probably won't hear from them once the seasons starts.

And if you do, something went terribly wrong.

10. Chase Daniel

1 of 10

This guy's name was on everyone's lips just a couple of years ago.

In 2007 he was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.

That same year he was invited to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

His senior year, he led the Tigers to a Top 25 spot before signing a free-agent contract with the Washington Redskins.

Now, he gets to battle Patrick Ramsey the next few weeks for the opportunity to hold Drew Brees's clipboard.

Yes, Patrick Ramsey is still in the league.

9. Curtis Painter

2 of 10

Curtis Painter has it made.

Peyton Manning almost never gets hurt, as a backup he gets paid millions, and Indiana fans are loyal and respectful, for the most part.

Curtis, you may have been a legend at Purdue, but you are a hero to millions of beer drinking fans who think they could do your job.

8. Ted Ginn Jr.

3 of 10

To most people, Ginn was a reach in the 2007 draft, going ninth, in front of guys like Patrick Willis, Marshawn Lynch, and Darrelle Revis.

So with expectations high, it was no surprise that he was a disappointment for the Miami Dolphins.

Now he is in San Francisco backing up Michael Crabtree.

Crabtree solidified his spot late last season by validating his high pick in the draft.

Now Ginn gets another chance to shed the "bust" label.

7. Jerious Norwood

4 of 10

I play fantasy football.

There, I said it.

And every year when my team is circling the drain, the starting running back for the Falcons will get hurt and Norwood will put up ridiculous numbers the next game.

And then I pick him up. And he shuts it down.

Thanks, Jerious.

6. David Carr

5 of 10

After being picked first overall in the 2002 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans, Carr went on to break single-season records.

Sack records.

As in becoming the most sacked quarterback ever in the NFL, by going down 76 times in one season.

The poor guy was constantly getting beat up and seemed shell shocked at times.

But now he gets to back up Alex Smith.

He'll get a lot of snaps this preseason and if he holds the ball as long as he did in Houston, there should be no quarterback controversy.

5. Jordan Palmer

6 of 10

Do you think the day will come when Jordan has to get cut by the Bengals but Carson is still on the team?

And if so, who do you think gets to break the news to the Palmers?

I think they are a package deal.

I hope Jordan kills it this preseason and challenges for the starting spot.

4. Brady Quinn

7 of 10

I'm not sure if BQ is a scrub in the strictest of terms but he does find himself in an interesting situation.

He's not the starter, although if he plays really well this preseason he might challenge for it.

But on the other hand, if he doesn't play well, he has TIM TEBOW behind him.

Yeah, that Tim Tebow.

So every time that ninth string wide receiver from Division III drops a pass this summer, Tim moves that much closer to stepping on your neck on the way to the top.

Just like he is attempting to do here.

3. Troy Smith

8 of 10

He led Ohio State to the National Championship Game and won the Heisman Trophy.

And though he was drafted in the fifth round the talk was that he would get a chance to compete for the starting position.

And after Joe Flacco was drafted several teammates came out and said that Smith deserved a shot.

But that was then. Now Flacco is the starter and Marc Bulger is his backup.

And Smith gets to show us that he still wants to be on the roster after this summer.

2. J.P. Losman

9 of 10

He went from backing up Drew Bledsoe in Buffalo to being named the starter for the Bills in 2005.

But things didn't go so well after that and he soon found himself playing for the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL.

But now he is back in Seattle and starring in a preseason game near you.

With Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst in front of him, he might work another miracle.

1. Deion Branch

10 of 10

Mr. Branch, where have you been?

The former Super Bowl MVP and two-time World Champion has been plagued by injury ever since he signed with Seattle.

And now he has to fight to keep his backup receiver spot from much younger guys who might be healthier and much hungrier.

It's going to be good seeing Deion this summer. Who knows if we'll see him when the seasons change?
