Ramires and 10 EPL Defenders Who Will Make a Difference This Season

With the addition of Ramires to the English Premier League, which other defenders will stand out and make a change in the game in the EPL this season?

There are 10 specific defenders this season who will not only stand out as the best in the league, but also will take their teams to the top of the defensive game of football.

These players come from within the league, but also from other leagues around the world, like Ramires.  What will he be doing when he joins the Chelsea team?

Ramires

According to reports from ESPN, it seems that the addition of Brazilian player Ramires to Chelsea is a done deal.

Ramires currently plays for Benfica, but will soon be joining the EPL.

Ramires is a very versatile player, who is both solid on defense and dangerous in attack.

His addition to Chelsea will give a needed boost to its midfield and greatly improve its defense, which are two things the Blues will need for next season.

In his performance with the Brazilian team in this year’s World Cup, Ramires proved why he will be such a valuable player to the EPL.

His defensive abilities, as well as his offensive abilities, will cause trouble for any team that goes up against the Blues.

Danny Coid

Danny Coid plays for Blackpool in the EPL and has played for them since he started in the league in 1998.

Like Ramires, Coid is a versatile player and can play in the midfield or on defense. However, his preferred position is as a defender.

According to the Blackpool team web site, this season Coid will be moving back to his favored position in the right back field.

With this move, Coid will be back in his most comfortable position, which could lead to a solid defensive performance from this defender.

If Coid brings an even more powerful performance this season, Blackpool will have a very strong defensive team, which could propel it to the top of the league.

Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand is a defender for Manchester United. He has been with the team since 2002.

Ferdinand is an excellent defender with a keen ability to read what is happening on the field.

This kind of ability places Ferdinand as one of the best defenders in the league, making him a hard force to get past on the field.

In the past, his performance in the back field helped propel Manchester United to the top of the EPL and also helped them win several league championships.

This year, Ferdinand should be able to once again help his team reach the top of the league through his quick actions and defense on the field.

Andrew Davies

Andrew Davies is a defender for Stoke City. He was signed to the team in 2008, but has yet to see much playing time.

This season however, may be different for Davies.

Since he had time to recover from his injury, a broken leg in 2004, Davies may come back at full strength, which would make a great addition to the starting Stoke City team.

When he began in the league, he showed his versatile ability to move between central defense and right-back. If he can come back this season and play up to his potential, he could become an unstoppable force on defense.

The Stoke City team would definitely benefit from this boost to their defensive game.

Wes Brown

Although Wes Brown has announced that he is retiring from international football, he will still be part of the Manchester United team this season.

Brown has been recognized as one of the best defenders in the country, which is why he was part of the national team in the first place.

Even though he will no longer be playing for the national team, he will be putting all of his focus on his club team, which is good news for Manchester United.

As defenders go, Brown is fast and tough. He can not only beat his opponents to the ball, but he can also steal it away from them just as quickly.

In addition to the other top defenders on the Manchester United team, Brown’s performance on the field will help put Manchester United at the top of the league very quickly.

Phil Jagielka

Phil Jagielka plays for both Everton and the English National team.

Jagielka is one of the best defenders in the league and in the country. He plays fast and smart on the field, which is part of what makes him one of the better defenders in football.

Because he is one of the best defenders in the country, he is the center of Everton’s defense.

After suffering from a ligament injury last year, he made his comeback in January of this year. As the year has progressed, Jagielka has proven that even a severe injury, like the one he suffered, will not hold him back or affect his defensive abilities.  

It will be interesting to see this season as his defensive abilities take on some of the tougher offensive teams, especially after coming back from an injury. In these games he will show that he can take on any offense, no matter how good they seem to be.

Ashley Cole

Ashley Cole is a defender for both Chelsea and the English National team.

He is an excellent defender who can not only protect his own goal from the other team, but also score on the other team as well.

Cole plays at left-back, and can move easily between the midfield and defense. His ability to easily move from one position to the next has shown he is a capable assister on the field.

As a player, he is very valuable. Not only does he provide solid defense to keep the other team from coming too close to the Chelsea goal, but also on occasion can score for Chelsea.

Earlier this year, he was sidelined by a fractured ankle, but quickly recovered and was back on the field in April.

It will be interesting to see how he and Ramires will team up on the field to create an even more powerful defense, which can also score.

Glen Johnson

Glen Johnson is another one of England’s top defenders. He plays for Liverpool and the English National team.

For such a young player in the league, he has experienced a great deal of playing time and success. Last season alone he scored three goals which is more than most defenders score in multiple seasons, combined.

This right-back is also a very valuable player for both his Liverpool club team and the national team. As a defender, he is quick on his feet and has a very good read on the game in front of him.

This season will only be Johnson’s second with Liverpool.

After having a year to get to know his new team and become comfortable with his position with them, he should come out a stronger player than he was last season.

If he has an even greater defensive game this season, he will be one of the toughest defenders in the country to get past, which will make for an interesting game when Liverpool goes up against some of the top offensive teams in the league.

Kieran Gibbs

Kieran Gibbs is a defender for both the Arsenal football club and the English National team.

As a defender, Gibbs is fast and can pass the ball well.

He began his career as a wing, but has since moved to the back field where he has shown where his true talents lie.

His time in the offensive end of the game, however, has helped him to become a very offensive defenseman.

He is aggressive and can move the ball up the field to score while still being able to get back to defend his team’s goal.

Every season it seems that Gibbs gets better and better, and this season should be his best yet. If he continues on this path of improving every year, he should be one of the toughest defenders in the league.

Michael Dawson

Michael Dawson is a defender for both the Tottenham Hotspur football club and the English National team.

As a defender, he is tough, fast and reliable. There is never any doubt when Dawson is on the field in his defensive abilities.

Since his arrival to the Tottenham Hotspurs in 2005, Dawson has shown himself to be key component of their defense.

Last season he suffered an achilles injury, but has since returned to the team, and seems to have come back stronger than ever. After his amazing performance last season and almost making the World Cup English team, Dawson will be one defender to watch this season.

His solid defensive performance should continue this season, which could cause some difficulty for any team his team goes up against.

With his defensive abilities, the Tottenham Hotspur football club should rise to be one of the top teams in the EPL this season.
