Trouble on the Way in Cincinnati?

John ReevesAug 8, 2010

We have seen it before, Terrell Owens throws his quarterbacks under the bus. While watching the Hall of Fame game on NBC tonight,  Collinsworth brought up the incentive laden contract made with T.O. It was mentioned that if things get tight late in the season, Owens is close to getting certain bonuses. But if the ball isn't coming his way, who will be thrown under the bus? Carson Palmer? Chad Ochocinco? Both?

There had been some interest in Owens, not like the Cincinnati Bengals had though. They could clearly use Owens and they needed him. Not just because Ochocinco cannot beat double teams, but because Owens has the go-to size. He's a different mold of wide receiver, he can get to jump balls that Chad Johnson might not get. He's fast, but almost as big as a TE. For a team that's had and lost good WR, the Bengals desperately needed one like Terrell.

As much as the team needed Owens, he needed the position of not having to do everything. T.O. knew the situation wasn't bare bones; Good QB, an elite WR, and a team that throws it a lot. That's exactly why I think the contract won't be an issue. There will be plenty of chances to earn that money. When given the choice on who to double, I see the opposing team doubling Ochocinco early. That leaves the early portion of the season for T.O. to rack up stats.

Both of these guys have a work ethic that's second to none. They understand what each other want because they have many similarities. The on field antics are legendary, also ridiculous in my opinion. They really are wired the same way. Never in Terrell's career has there been a teammate like himself. That plays a big role in keeping trouble out of Cincinnati this season. I see them going 9-7, with a happy T.O.
