Tiger Woods Says "It's Been a Long Year" After Dismal Bridgestone Invitational

Thomas MorelandAug 8, 2010

That one statement probably summed it up best, as Tiger Woods had one of his worst performances as a professional golfer.

That may have been the worst ever for Woods at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational played at Firestone Country Club in Akron Ohio.

Questioned about the state of his game, he said, almost in the eloquent tone used by Dennis Green, "It is what it is".

Tiger further stated he needs to drive better, chip better, and putt better.

Duh! is all I have to say to that one.

Tiger Woods has three to four days of swing practice to get ready for the PGA Championship as I am watching Kenny Perry slam dunk one right into the hole for an eagle on the front nine of Firestone.

Phil looks frustrated as well today. Not on the level of Tiger's tribulations in 2010.

The number one golfer in the world is now Phil Mickelson.

Enjoy that for the 10 minutes or so it stays in effect.

Swing changes coupled with nagging injuries, minor or not, and of course huge routine changes in your personal life will have their effect on your golf game.

Tiger suffered a similar slump earlier in his career, but rose right back up out of the slime to nail down five or six major titles and 25 tournament wins or so.

Tiger Woods will be back on point very soon, so enjoy the wins while you can, PGA Tour. Even though other guys are winning, interest is waning in a sport needing a star presence to draw big purses, big sponsors, and big crowds.

The Tour needs Tiger to win, and Tiger needs to win on Tour.

Good luck at Whistling Straits next week. It seems like you'll need it for once in your golf career.
