NFL Predictions for 2010 Season: Game-By-Game Breakdown for Patriots
The New England Patriots are a different team than they have been in the past. Still, they will always be contenders as long as they have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick around.
Top Ten Sportsbooks like Bet Mania, released the win/loss forecast for the Patriots and the over/under is set at 9.5. The Patriots odds to win the AFC East are 1.25 to 1, and the odds to win the AFC are 4.5 to 1. They play in a tough division and conference. Because of this they are listed as 10 to 1 odds to win the Super bowl.
Questions about Tom Brady’s contract and Wes Welker’s return from injury have highlighted the preseason news. The New England Patriots have one of the tougher schedules in the NFL this year, and will have to be at the top of their game to return to the Super bowl.
Here is a breakdown of the schedule with predicted outcomes for the New England Patriots in 2010.
9/12, Cincinnati, 1 p.m.
The T.O. and Ochocinco show comes to Foxboro. The Bengals are one tough team this year, and they should give the Patriots a tough game to kick off the season. If this game was on the road it would be a loss for the Pats but at Foxboro, the edge goes to Brady and Co. Patriots: 1-0
9/19, @ New York Jets, 4:15 p.m.
This rivalry is becoming as intense as the Red Sox/Yankees. Rex Ryan always has his team focused when Belichick comes to town. This will be a tough physical game and give the slight edge to the New York Jets. The Patriots defense needs some time to develop. Patriots: 1-1
9/26, Buffalo, 1 p.m.
The Bills have a long way to go before they will challenge anyone in the AFC East. They catch the Patriots off a loss to the Jets and that is bad news for the Bills. The Bills defense will be shredded by Brady and the Patriots win this one going away. Patriots: 2-1
10/4, @Miami, (Monday night) 8:30 p.m.
Miami is going to be very tough to beat this year, especially at home. To make matters worse the Patriots travel to face Miami on a Monday night. The crowd will be hyped and the Dolphins will hand the Pats the second loss of the season. Patriots: 2-2
10/17, Baltimore, 1 p.m.
The Patriots will be off a bye week, off a loss, and looking for revenge. The Ravens enter Foxboro for the first time since they whipped the Patriots in the playoffs last year. The Patriots will expose the secondary of the Ravens and win going away. Patriots: 3-2
10/24, @San Diego, 4:15 p.m.
The Patriots are in another tough scheduling spot as they travel to the west coast to take on the Chargers. The Patriots and the Chargers are very similar teams but the edge is to the home town in this game, Chargers by a field goal. Patriots: 3-3
10/31, Minnesota, 4:15 p.m.
The Vikings will be Super bowl contenders as I still believe that Brett Favre is coming back. The strength of this team is the defense as they have one of the best in the NFL. That defense is excellent at rushing the passer and that is a Patriot weakness. Pats lose at home and go below .500. Patriots: 3-4.
11/8 @ Cleveland, 1 p.m.
The best cure to end a losing streak is to get the Cleveland Browns on your schedule. The Patriots have to be careful that they are not looking ahead to big games against Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. This team is too experienced to fall for that trap and they beat the Browns. Patriots: 4-4
11/14, @ Pittsburgh, (Sunday night) 8:20 p.m.
The Sunday night game in Pittsburgh will be a tough game for the Patriots to win. However they always seem to play well in Pittsburgh. This game will be one of the better games of the year and the Patriots win it with a late score by Brady. Patriots: 5-4
11/21, Indianapolis, 1 p.m
The Patriots are off a very big win in Pittsburgh and will have to scramble to get ready for Peyton Manning and the Colts. The Colts are just a better team than the Patriots are at his point. The rivalry between Brady and Manning is still a great one to watch but the edge goes to the Colts, even at Foxboro. Patriots: 5-5
11/25, @Detroit, 1 p.m.
Upset alert! If you’re looking for a game that New England could tank this is it. The Patriots are off a rivalry game against the Colts and they have the Jets on deck next. They are on a short week of preparation and they travel to Detroit to take on an improved Lions team. I know I will hear it for this one, but the Pats get upset on Turkey Day. Patriots: 5-6
12/6, New York Jets, (Monday night) 8:20 p.m.
The Patriots are fresh off an embarrassing loss and had plenty of time to think about it before this Monday night game. They get the Jets at home and the crowd should energize this Patriots team. Patriots win and split the series. Patriots: 6-6
12/12, @ Chicago, 1 p.m.
The Patriots take on the Bears, and I believe that the Patriots will have trouble against teams with a solid pass rush. Since they acquired Julius Peppers the Bears will have an aggressive pass rush and beat the Patriots at home. Patriots: 6-7
12/19, Green Bay, 8:20 p.m.
The Patriots are now in a must-win situation if they want to get into the playoffs. They entertain the Packers in Foxboro in a game that will be a Wild West shootout with serious gunslingers on display. In a game that could have a total combined score in the 80s the Patriots pull out the victory. Patriots: 7-7
12/26 @ Buffalo, 1 p.m.
The Patriots already have one upset this year against a subpar team and they will make sure it doesn’t happen again. The Patriots always play well in Buffalo and will do it again with a blowout victory. Patriots: 8-7
1/2, Miami, 1 p.m.
Last game of the season and the Dolphins will come to what should be a very cold Foxboro stadium. The Patriots will be fighting for a playoff spot and looking for revenge from the loss in earlier in the season. The weather and the home field advantage is enough to secure a win for the Patriots.
New England Patriots 2010 final record: 9-7
