Seahawks Need a Second Leader on Offense to Be Competitive This Season

lee springAug 8, 2010

Next to Hasselbeck who has got to step up in order for this team to make it to the playoffs and beyond? I believe Seattle's running backs have to show leadership as well.

At this point in time it looks like Jones and Forsett are competing I only hope that Carrol picks the right man for the job.

The comparison is similar in allot of ways except probably the most important one.

Jones is an explosive player that has had some burst when Seattle's offense is in sync with spurts of running up the field were pretty common for him at the beginning of the game, last season, especially when the offense was playing well.

However when Hasselbeck struggled so did Jones not a very good quality as a starter. My opinion is Jones is good but not great, he is good because he is a follower and when the offense is in tune so is he that is when he is most dangerous.

Forsett like Jones is an explosive player that has had some burst when Seattle's offense is in sync with spurts of running up the field as well.

However there is one quality that Forsett has that Jones does not, and that is leadership. Even when the team was struggling he kept me from changing the channel (when Jones was out) because I always thought that he may put that spark back in Hasselbeck and get the offense on the right track again.

Due to the offensive line never gelling, that never happened, but Forsett NEVER gave up he gave every ounce of effort he had even at the end of games makes him more than a good player, this makes him a great player.

The exciting thing about this year is Seattle should have a OL that will give them hopefully a couple more seconds to function properly. Forsett ran like a mad man right through a brick wall last year and made plays, hopefully with some holes in the wall he will be that much better.

My vote would be for Forsett to be the first back based on leadership skills. Second would be Jones unless the offense is not playing well than keep him off of the field!

Leon because of his leg hopefully will be used mainly for special teams unless he is needed for Jones lack of leadership as the second runner.

Hasselbeck should play better this year with more time on the field. Theirs times even when Hass had good protection he has been known to struggled in the past, this is where Forsett's leader ship is most valuable and why he should be the first back.

Alexander before the big contract had that kind of leadership. When Hass struggled Alexander would burst up the field and make some big plays Hass would regroup because of the leadership (spark) Alex put back in the team and Hass was back in rhythm again.

If Forsett can be similar to the Alex before the big contract, the OL gels and works well together, and Hass plays like he wants a big contract than I think we will see Seattle in the playoffs this year even if they are rebuilding.
