UFC 117 Play-by-Play: Clay Guida (26-8) vs. Rafeal dos Anjos (14-4)

1st round – Referring this lightweight bout will be Herb Dean.  Guida refuses to tap gloves and does three circles around Dos Anjos.  Dos Anjos lands first, a heavy right hand.  Dos Anjos is hit with a sharp leg kick, but it is answered with a leg kick by Dos Anjos.  Dos Anjos, after some exchanges, hits with another low leg kick that almost puts Guida to the ground.  Guida stops a takedown attempt and is trying to turn the tables on Dos Anjos.  Dos Anjos has a body lock on Guida, who is still trying for the takedown.  Guida is stuffed three different times, but continues to push forward for the attempt.  Dos Anjos is trying to work the body of Guida while it is accessible.  They finally seperate and exchange, Guida catches a left hand from Dos Anjos.  Dos Anjos looks for the takedown, but gets stuffed.  Dos Anjos lands a head kick, but is hit with a right hand from Guida in the process.  Dos Anjos lands a hard uppercut and then gets a takedown with about thirty seconds left in the round.  Guida is able to make it back to his feet before the round ends.  (Dos Anjos 10-9)

2nd round – Both fighters look fresh as they return for the 2nd round.  Dos Anjos beats Guida to the center of the octagon.  Dos Anjos hits with a nice leg kick again to begin his attack.  Guida misses with a front kick and a superman punch, but continues to push forward.  Dos Anjos lands a body kick and a left hand to the body.  Dos Anjos shoots in and presses Guida against the fence.  He lets go after a few seconds and squares off with Guida in the center of the octagon.  Dos Anjos misses with a flurry of kicks, and then gets taken to the ground on his back.  Dos Anjos is in full guard as Guida works on his body.  Guida stays in tight as he tries to pass Dos Anjos’ guard.  He finally gets into half guard and continues to work on his body from top position.  Dos Anjos, for the first time, looks to be uncomfortable.  Dos Anjos finally hits with a couple of elbows as the round ends.  (Dos Anjos 10-9)

3rd round – This third and final round is underway.  Both fighters connect with punches to the face and body.  Dos Anjos hits with a body kick to the center of Guida’s body.  Guida engages with Dos Anjos and slams him on his back.  Guida lands in half guard and immediately goes to work using knees.  As Guida applies pressure to Dos Anjos face, he makes him tapout.  By the looks of things, it appears to be a broken jaw for dos Anjos.
