Smith accomplished all of those goals and more. Statistically, he is the best running back to ever grace the field. He leads every back to ever play in yards, carries, and rushing touchdowns.
His combination of running, receiving, and blocking ability made him a vital part of three Super Bowl teams.
What made Emmitt so special on the field was how great a teammate he was, and that is the same thing that made his induction speech great.
Smith gave credit everywhere he could, thanking God, family, owner, coaches, and teammates. Most notably, he thanked Daryl "Moose" Johnston.
"You mean the world to me," Smith said in a tearful statement. "Not just because we shared the same backfield, but because you sacrificed so much. The sacrifices you made, not simply your body, but your whole spirit. You took care of me as though you were taking care of your little brother. Without you I know today would not have been possible. You sacrificed so much. I love you Daryl, from the bottom of my heart."
With his induction, Smith wanted to let everyone know how much the name he carries in means to him.
"Now when I go into the hall today, I'm not going in along," Smith said. "You see, I'm carrying my grandfather, I'm carrying my father and I'm carrying my son along with me because I bear their names."
Smith's speech reminded Dallas fans everywhere why he will always be one of the most loved members of the Cowboys' organization.
