UFC 117: Last Look, Predictions and Breakdowns
Very interesting undercard are also on this card. I really wish they would've shown Hazelett and Story on SPIKE that fight is going to be fun. Phil Davis is also on the undercard, who has defeated Stann. You have "Skyscrape" and Johnny Hendricks down there also. You also have Ben Saunders fighting Dennis Hallman, which should also be a fun fight... Now to the main card.
5. Clay Guida vs. Rafael Dos Anjos
Preview : Clay is a hard nose fighter ho loves to bang. He has been in great wars with likes of Roger Huerta (America's Super Hero), Diego Sanchez (Yes man), and Tyson Griffin (The Crimson Chin?). He did end up with the short end of the stick on everyone of those fights, but he made wars out of them. We have grown to love this man, but he has another fight ahead of him.
Rafael is a jiu-jitsu black belt, and Guida has been submitted several times in his career. Rafael, with only one submission in the UFC, might find problems with the pace that Guida fights at. Guida starts at the walk out and doesn't stop till the fights over. He is fast and strong.
What going to happen : Guida willl have yet another laughable walk out, Dos Anjos will be very serious (haha). Guida will throw with him until he can get inside for the clinch, he will take him down every round, yet some how make the fight exciting. I've picked Dos Anjos every single time I have been asked, besides now.
Prediction : Guida UD 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 (I always chose Dos Anjos sub 2nd fyi)
If I had to pick a finish : Dos Anjos sub 1st or 2nd
4. Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo "Big Dog" Almeida
Preview : First of all don't Country Boys (Matt Hughes) have "big dogs" as pets??? hmmmm... Okay, Hughes in my personal opinion was the most dominate fighter ever, and may still be labeled as that. He was viciously strong and took you down when he wanted. His intensity has faded through the years. He needs to find it and use it in order to win. He can't take down Ricardo and lay there, he will get submitted if he does.
Ricardo is working towards a future title shot, he needs to win this one. Neither fighter is really great on their feet, I believe if it stays there that may make an interesting fight. Hughes needs a takedown (And a old school at that) Almeida needs a submission. That's why Hughes must stay active and use his killer instinct to get in and beat on Almeida and test his cardio. Because we all know Hughes is in shape
What's going to happen : I really think Hughes is going to test him on the feet for about two minutes. I believe it will be more of a stalemate, so Hughes will shoot and achieve the takedown. I don't see him being too active early, for the quick sub. attempts from Ricardo. What to expect, Hughes taking him down, Ricardo doing most work on the ground. Judges will give it to Hughes, for the impressive takedowns.
Prediction : Hughes UD (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) People will surely argue this, but I can see Hughes picking up the pace and maybe finishing the fight late. Who knows should be fun.
If I had to pick a finish : Either Hughes TKO 3rd, or ALmeida sub. 2nd
3. Roy "Big Country" vs. Junior Dos Santos
Preview : More Country, this time just a bigger version. Dos Santos is the obvious favorite for the competition he has faced. Although, I really don't remember him on his back. He has lost once and that was by submission, he has only submitted one person in his career (Exlcuding exhaustion, and Mirko Cro Cop verbally tapping to strikes). If Roy can get him down who knows. Awesome fight if they both stay standing, Junior probably gets the best of him on his feet. Roy gets him down, different story.
Whats going to happen : Roy will test the chin of Junior and he will pass. Roy will shoot for the takedown and get it. Junior will find a way to get back up several times, but by the third round. Roy gets him there and keeps him there. Gets a TKO 3rd stoppage.
Prediction : Roy Nelson TKO 3rd (stoppage ground and pound) Dos Santos fans, if it stays standing Roy very well could go to sleep.
If I had to make it a decision : Nelson Ud (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) Its hard to pick Dos Santos for me due to not seeing him on the ground... Roy gets caught he goes out though.
2. Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves
Preview - Jon Fitch has been knocked out once in his career, to a knee i might add. Alves has been knocked out once, to Jon Fitch I might add. Already a interesting fight for the reason that last time Alves failed to make way he knocked out Hughes, embarassing for an experienced fighter. Alves has talked openly about the weight issues, saying he is going to make weight no problem... And he misses weight... I now hope Fitch finishes him, but he won't sadly (haha).
Can Alves pull off another knockout after not being on weight? Or can jon beat the pounds off of him?
Whats going to happen : Jon will take it down, and idt Alves can defend them all that well. He might be able to escape them early though. Fitch has to watch out for knees when going for the takedown. I see Fitch getting rocked bad in the 2nd round, but surviving and winning the first and third on takedowns. Close fight, contraversial decision.
Prediction : Jon Fitch SD (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
If I had to pick a finish : Alves TKO 2nd
1. Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva
Preview : Can't wait for Clay and Matt's walk in, because those are my two favorite walk ins in the UFC. But other than that I absolutely can't wait just to see these guys look at each other in the octagon. How are these two fighters going to react, I'm getting nervous for both of them. It's going to get crazy
Both fighters have fought and beat/dominated great fighters. Fighters on Chaels resume are: Okami, Miller, Marquardt, Filho, Creduer, Lambert, and "Mayhem" Miller. He is one of the best collegiate wrestlers in the UFC. He has great credentials that allows him to say those things. I was very upset with Silva's performance against Leites and Maia for that matter.
Although, Silva has beat, embarassed, and dominated he best in the world. On his resume are : Franklin, Leben, Henderson, Marquardt, Lutter, Cote, Maia, Griffin, Rivera, and many more. Silva is one of the p4ps best in the world, and there is no arging that.
Whats going to happen : There are the obvious two questions. Can Chael get Anderson down? My answer is yes. The other qustion is can he keep him there and dominate? My answer is not long enough to win. He ill put Anderson in some bad positions, and will rain blows on him occasionally.
Chael has never been knocked out or really tkod either. He has two tko lossed, one by a cut and other by corner stoppage. Chael opens up on throwing punches and gets caught.
Prediction : Anderson Silva sub 2nd after losing 1st round.
All these fights are going to be entertaining, these are just my takes on the fights. I can see every fight on this card going either way, so if you disagree you won't here much from me. Great fights, can't wait, it will be a great night of fights.
