TNA: Just a Few Random Thoughts

ryan delaneyAug 6, 2010

Watching wrestling lately and just had a few random thoughts that I'd like to express, hope to get a little conversation going.

Thoughts on TNA:

Sunday is the much hyped super Impact, which (as Eric Bischoff has said repeatedly) will have pay-per-view quality matches for free.  Is it just me or doesn't that kind of mean that Bischoff is standing in the ring on Impact and saying, "This is not our best" and "We hold back on regular cable so you have to pay for the good stuff."  Could be wrong, but advertising your flagship as second rate, while your are on said program, doesn't seem to be an ideal marketing strategy.

The ECW PPV is this sunday, which I am looking forward to.  I would probably be looking forward to it more if I knew what the matches were.  I know RVD vs. Jerry Lynn and Raven vs. Dreamer, but that's about it; hard to be amped to drop over 30 bucks without knowing what matches are on the card.  Again TNA fails in the suspense/build-up aspect of wrestling.  Should have taken a while to build it up since the only match with any heat will be Raven/Dreamer, and it's only got a weeks worth.  Lynn/RVD matches back in the day had story, history, emotion, and appeal which made the five star matches they put on even better.  Other than reliving ECW days, there is no good reason for Lynn and RVD to be fighting so the mark side of my brain cares about the match a LOT less.

Finding it a shame to see Jerry Lynn only getting to main event a TNA PPV when it's actually an "EV2.0" PPV.  Thinking back to the glory days of the X-division I was always hoping (and expecting) Lynn to get a main event world title push, he certainly could put together a better match than Jeff Jarrett or Kevin Nash when they were at their best.  Sure he doesn't have the mic skills but I've never been that impressed with the mic skills of AJ or Samoa Joe, those guys live and thrive off of pure in ring talent.  He didn't even have to win the title, but Lynn-AJ could have been a sweet world title match, hell it could have been a damn good feud if done right.

Speaking of the X-Division's glory days, anybody else sick of the X title being pushed to the background?  As soon as the cruiserweight title became the best show in WCW it was weakened so the Heavyweight title could reign supreme, now they've done it in TNA.  Anyone else kind of pissed about that?

I miss Elix Skipper.  When Jeff Hardy was doing the jaw-dropping, off-the-wall stunts that got everybody going in WWF/WWE, Skipper was doing it in TNA.  I just loved the dude's ability to work a match; he was awesome.  His tight-rope cage walk hurricanrana is legendary, and I got the feeling Skipper never made it to the limit of what he could do in ring.  And while we're at it, anyone else feel sorry for the way 'Wildcat' Chris Harris has been forgotten since AMW broke up.  The guy had size and ability, and was part of a sweet tag team.  Wish one someone could have found something for him to do.

TNA's needs to spend more time on their wrestling show actually wrestling, and if they want to show respect to their roster and fully use their roster they probably need another wrestling show.  You finally get Spike to give you more TV time and you create Reaction?  Worry about having a good main show with quality wrestling on it before you start going 'behind the scenes' morons.  Let me just say I am rather disappointed, though not that surprised.

Finally according to wikipedia Vince Russo was head of creative until May 2010.  Anybody know who the new head is or is TNA just flying blind without anybody running the ship?  Might explain why they decided to go ECW; something to do, that can make money while they work on signing a head booker.

Well, that's about all I got and look forward to comments and responses.
