NFL Predictions for 2010 Season: Eagles Will Finish Better Than 8-8

Thomas MorelandAug 6, 2010

Andy Reid is a shrewd judge of quarterback talent in the NFL.

Reid will throw the ball more often than run. We all know that by now, but having one of the best all around explosive players in the league might help.

Kevin Kolb was made for the Philadelphia Eagles and it is his time now.

With DeSean Jackson receiving for over 2000 yards last season, and the steady attack of LeSean McCoy running the ball, I think the Eagles will be better than the 500 category Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN put them at for the 2010 season.

Let's grab a game-by-game look at 2010 and predict what will actually happen for the Philadelphia Eagles.

This preseason, all the teams will be broken down in my "once in a while's" by NFL Mikee[aka Thomas Moreland].

So far I approve Oakland at an 8-8 prediction, San Francisco as a division winner between 9-7 and 11-5, Pittsburgh perhaps struggling to make the playoffs with a couple of very key games at 10-6 missing out, or 11-5 in.

Likewise with the New England Patriots, whose fans showed disgust at the mere mention of 9-7 to 10-6. They have been upgraded to 11-5 with Favre perhaps out of the picture.

The New York Jets have been previewed at very close to New England, maybe one game better, or even having a tiebreaker scenario involved this season. The Miami Dolphins will have a huge say in that as well, and their season will be looked at soon.

The Eagles start the season off at home against the supposed powerhouse Green Bay Packers.

Obviously, this would be a huge win on opening day for the Eagles. The Packers might take a few games to develop that killer closing instinct needed to carry through the playoffs to a Super Bowl.

Kolb can throw the ball and he has weapons.

The vaunted defense has fallen to 19th in the league, and that must be addressed urgently. This is a big one early, so let's give Andy Reid credit for a good game plan plus Jackson and McCoy tearing the ground up.

EAGLES OUT THE GATE AT 1-0.

In Week Two of the Eagles' season, we will find the warbirds at Detroit for a scrimmage with the Matthew Stafford-led Lions. They have improved from that 0-16 debacle two seasons ago, as the aftermath of the Millen era has washed away.

They have not improved enough to beat the Eagles. The Lions will be stuck on the ground while the Eagles fly high at 2-0.

Next, the team stays on the road against Jacksonville, and should be able to come away with a win here also, riding on the enthusiasm of the new offense led by Kevin Kolb.

Okay. Just for giggles, they lose one here. 2-1 is a good probability; even if they lose to Green Bay, these next two should be wins. 2-1 at least for three games.

Note to the Eagles: Be totally ready for the season, and come out of the gate like it's Week 16 and you have to win to make the playoffs.

Week Four all the hype hits Philadelphia as Donovan McNabb returns in a Washington Redskins uniform. The Eagles, of course, win this game easily, knowing McNabb's every move. Eagles are 3-1 now, Golic.

Next on the agenda is a trip to the Bay Area and Mike Singletary's 49ers are hoping to make some noise this season. This could be a loss. So to be realistic in the expectations of the season, the Eagles are 3-2 now.

Week Six is at home against Atlanta and this should be a pretty good game. This is a great matchups and Atlanta could steal one here with the hard running of Michael Turner, some decent play by Matt Ryan, and some good receivers.

They can rebound against the Tennessee Titans on the road the following week, or switch this—win at home and lose to the Titans. In any case, they most likely have a record of 4-3 now.

Week Eight is a Bye Week, to rest and get ready for Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.

After a bye, the tendency is to be pretty well rested, compared to the other team that just played last week. The Eagles shock Indy in this one to get some breathing room in the playoff hunt. 5-3.

Next to Washington they travel, to dispose of McNabb one more time—if he is still playing by then. Something tells me he won't last the season. 6-3 now, maybe 5-4 at the very worst, Greenie!

The next game is hard to call, as I am not sure which New York Giants we have, the 6-0 Giants of last season, or the horrible Giants of the latter part of last season.

This is a home game, and the Eagles with Kolb must be settled in pretty well by now. Eagles win, Eagles win!  7-3 or 6-4 at the worst case scenario.

I don't think the Chicago Bears can stop the Eagles' offense this season, so let's get a win there and move to perhaps 8-3 or 7-4.

Two games will be played against the Dallas Cowboys, and let's just say the most negative thing happens and they lose both of those games: The Eagles would still be at 8-5 or 7-6. They could beat Dallas once, in fact, in the Dallas forecast, I believe I have that happening.

They have one more against the Giants, which because it's away, the Eagles might lose. The Eagles can beat the Houston Texans and reach nine wins for the season. Then all that's left is a Favre-less Minnesota to beat for a 10-win season.

Beat the Cowboys once and 9-10 wins is a virtually lock.

Get a reality check, Mike and Mike in the Morning. A better look at the schedule might be in order before tossing out some questions and an 8-8 prediction for one of the better teams in this league, loaded with talent.
