COWBOYS WILL WIN SB IN OWN HOUSE

tony mastrianniAug 5, 2010

Tony Romo a gunslinger? You're kidding, right? This guy has matured into an elite NFL QB with play making and improvisational  ability not seen since the days of John Elway.  Okay, he went to Cabo when it all started and he threw a pick in the end zone. Then Patrick Crayton dropped the potential winning TD, etc, etc. The Giants eventually won the game and advanced --when -- deja vu in reverse -- Brett (I think I'll retire again) Favre, threw a post season interception to the wrong guy -- AGAIN!!! Yikes. But now, as of this writing, Tony Romo is officially  the new Doc Holliday -- replete with Houdini imitations, ice in his veins, skates on his feet ,and pinpoint accurate bullets pumping out of that rifle.

OWNERSHIP & COACHING: Jerraauhh Jones looks like a genius since Billy Parcells left. I mean he drafted Mike Jenkins and Felix Jones among others; this year swung a deal with Bob Kraft to lure Dez Bryant from the jaws of the Jaguars, even cut Greg Ellis for Anthony Spencer, and Terrell Owens for Miles Austin last year.  Wade Philips has done a stellar job taking over the defensive reigns from Brian Stewart, and the Cowboys have maintained an A+ coaching staff with the likes of Jason Garrett, Ray Sherman, Hudson Houch, etc on the offensive side of the ball.

THE QUARTERBACK::  Okay, Romo has matured. He is bright , mobile, armed and dangerous. Last year he averaged 280 yards per game passing, and only he and Aaron Rodgers started every game and and had less than 10 interceptions!  One major difference, Romo has a prolific running game in the form of a three-headed monster, so he isn't pass crazy like Rodgers and the good Manning (Was that Eli in his brother's uniform throwing those picks in the last SB against the Saints?)

COWBOYS DEFENSE: The heat will be on again for the modern day Doomsday Defense. This year Anthony Spencer will become the next Demarcus Ware and da Boys will terrorize opposing QB's. Opposing coaches will insist that he (Ware) is shedding blocks from the right tackle and the left tackle simultaneously, not realizing Anthony Spencer has cloned Demarcus!

COWBOYS OFFENSE: And, with a healthy Dez Bryant by Sept 12 National Prime Time opener at Washington, they might have to call the game by the end of the 3rd quarter! I mean it just ain't fair!   Miles Austin and Dez  (the heir apparent to God in cleats) on the same team, with Jason Witten on the flank and Felix Jones sneakin' out of the backfield! How do you cover that??? It just ain't fair I say!

So what are the four obstacles they will overcome?

(1) David Beuhler can kick the ball out of any stadium in the NFL. He will be kicking field goals this year. The man has a seriously powerful leg. #1: Can Beuhler kick a 50 yard FG in a real game situation? Yes, the Cowboys just waived all other kickers who tried out.

(2) Flozell Adams is wondering why he is in Pittsburgh and no longer  protecting Romo's blind side.  Doug Free  dominated the strong side late last year when Marc Columbo went down with a leg injury. His natural position is the weak side -–Left Tackle

(3) Ken Hamlin had bracket coverage last year on deep receivers but had no picks. Young cornerback turned safety Alan Ball was a up upgrade in the three games he filled in for the injured Ken Hamlin last year -- (including a no touchdown game in a 7-6 road win in Washington) He has the speed, smarts  and range to play Free Safety.

(4) The Cowboys lost two close games at home last season (Giants and Chargers). With a tough road schedule , how will they fare at home this year? It won’t happen again. Anthony Spencer and Mike Jenkins will have  have All-Pro years as will Romo, Ratliff and Ware; and Dez Bryant will seal the deal The Cowboys will go 8-0 at Cowboys Stadium to get home field and eventually host the Super Bowl this time around. Dallas 31, San Diego 17.
