Plaxico Burress Jail Release? 10 NFL Teams Who'd Want Him

RM HeroldAug 5, 2010

According to several sources, including ESPN, Plaxico Burress has applied for work release.

They also stated that if he is granted a work release, his suspension would be lifted.

Would that mean he might be back in the league before June 2011, which was going to be the earliest if he served his whole term?

Will anyone want a 33-year-old receiver who has been out of football for more than two years?

Possibly.

Let's check out the top 10 candidates.

10. New York Giants

1 of 10

He won a Super Bowl with them and if he came back right now in great shape, he would be the second-best receiver on their roster and be the starter by Week Three.

That's if he was in great shape and they wanted to let bygones be bygones.

They said they won't re-sign him, but they all say that.

9. New England Patriots

2 of 10

The Hoodie thinks he can rehab anybody. And so far he has done a good job with reclamation projects (Rodney Harrison, Randy Moss, Corey Dillon...), so why not try one more?

The word is that Moss is leaving after this year, so this might actually not be that far off.

8. Denver Broncos

3 of 10

The Broncos lost Brandon Marshall to the Dolphins and now they start Eddie Royal and Jabar Gaffney.

Not exactly household names.

In fact, Gaffney was fourth string for New England a couple of years ago.

Josh McDaniels is from the Belichick coaching tree, which means he'll try anything to make the team better.

Heck, the Broncos just signed LenDale White and he was cut from the Seahawks as he entered their building.

By his college coach.

7. Cleveland Browns

4 of 10

Hey, I love Josh Cribbs. I think he should be applauded for his commitment to stay in Cleveland. But the guy isn't a receiver.

He is a return specialist and possibly a running back like his uncle, back in the day.

Head coach Eric Mangini is on the hot seat right now.

If Plaxico could get him off of it, he would sign him tomorrow.

6. Arizona Cardinals

5 of 10

Even though they lost Anquan Boldin to the Ravens, they still have three really good receivers left in Steve Breaston, Early Doucet, and Larry Fitzgerald.

But other than that, the cupboard is bare. And besides, what if Burress could beat out Doucet, or even Breaston?

At the very least you would have a veteran fourth guy in case anyone goes down.

Leinart needs all the help he can get.

5. Buffalo Bills

6 of 10

As my buddy and long-time Buffalo fan Eric would say, "Screw it, let's give it a try."

I feel like that's what all Bills fans feel like these days. You're stuck in a division with the Pats, Jets, and Dolphins and things aren't looking up.

They gave TO a try; Plaxico can't be much worse.

Give Trent Edwards more weapons.

He could be right on the brink of greatness.

4. Chicago Bears

7 of 10

Here's another team trying to make a return guy into an every down receiver.

There's a reason he was never one before. Let Devin Hester return punts, kickoffs, and go for two after touchdowns.

Sign Plaxico as soon as they open the cell door before Chicago fans really lose it.

3. Houston Texans

8 of 10

Kevin Walter is pretty good, but he doesn't scare anyone.

Put Burress across from the monster known as Andre Johnson and finally the playoffs would be in your future.

2. New York Jets

9 of 10

Ol' Rex will want to keep adding pieces to his team and he's going to get tired of Braylon Edwards dropping passes sooner rather than later.

And it keeps the J-E-T-S Jets in the spotlight even more.

No-brainer.

1. Oakland Raiders

10 of 10

Come on. This was too easy.

And just to prove that I'm serious, I didn't use his crazy picture (Google it).

They have a stable of young, talented guys, but they need a veteran.

Plaxico will be there this time next year.

Guaranteed.

Just win, Al.
