TNA: Five things that need to change
Before I start this article, I want to say that I am a TNA fan, as am I a WWE fan, however by no means are either of these companies perfect – but by all means, no company will ever be perfect for everyone. So I would like to share with you what I would like to change in TNA.
Stop changing the belt’s name!
In the space of two years the belt has already had two name changes, and that’s not a good thing.
First it was named TNA Legends championship then it was renamed TNA Global Championship and now has been renamed TNA Television championship.
Even I, an avid TNA fan, have become somewhat lost and confused over the name and purpose of this belt.
Another problem I have with this belt is that it doesn’t seem to have a solid place in the ranking of TNA.
We all know that the TNA heavyweight is for the main eventer’s, the women’s belt is for the women, the tag team belts are for tag teams, the women's tag belts are for the women tag teams and the x division belt is for the cruiserweights, but where does this belt rank?
I personally rank it as the in-between belt of x division and heavyweight, but even so this still should be made more clear if this it’s purpose.
Get rid of the time limit match rule (or at least extend it)
TNA has some ridiculously talented wrestlers, but at times, it feels like they are unable to truly shine and show the fans how talented they are.
Beer Money Inc. and the Motor City Machine Guns are two tag teams that remind me of the attitude era days of Hardy Boyz, Edge and Christian and the Dudley Boys. It’s been a long time since I have seen tag teams capture some of this energy, however it feels like ten-minute matches aren’t enough to show this. Any match that involves these two tag teams, especially against each other, is always exciting to watch. I just wish they didn’t have to end so quickly.
The women’s division!
TNA should either, rebuild the women’s division and establish more women tag teams, or get rid of the tag team belts all together! Belts are only credible if they have a division of talented wrestlers to fight for them. These belts have had hardly any, if none, storyline development surrounding them since they have been on TV.
Use Daffney! Daffney is a talented and very underrated wrestler. She has a character that strays far away from the typical generic women characters in wrestling seen today, and this is what people love about her. It feels like there is so much more character potential in her than most of the women wrestlers out there but alas she is rarely used!
Stop changing the knockouts belt via stupid stipulations such as opening boxes!
These women deserve far much better than their belt being won in such ways!
Stop buying old talent!
TNA has, for a while, had a mixed bag of old and new wrestlers. TNA has wrestlers such as AJ Styles and Samoa Joe who have established their name through TNA (and ROH) and wrestlers such as Kevin Nash who have made their name in WCW and WWE.
I have no problem with older wrestlers helping out and pushing young up comers, but I do have a problem when TNA forgets about the young talent they have and focus on wrestlers who have had their time to shine and have gone past their sell by date. These wrestlers should be there to help promote young talent through promo’s and occasional matches, but not having 15 long minute segments with each other, when I could be watching a match between some of the younger wrestlers.
Don't alienate you fans, Keep loyal to them!
I can understand TNA is a business and it needs to be successful in order to survive, but they need to put faith in their loyal fans.
Buying in Hulk Hogan and Bischoff may have caught some media attention at first, but once that fizzled down TNA was left with less fans and at the loss of some of their most loyal fans.
Getting rid of the 6 sided ring was controversial and upset and angered a lot of people. Some fans saw it as selling out for success and a step forward in becoming what it always claimed not to be. TNA should stick to their guns it’s what has got them to be they are today.
Thank you for reading my first article. Hope you enjoyed!
