Alberto Contador Sign With Saxo Bank

Alberto Contador, a three-time Tour of France's winner, has agreed for two years with the Sungard - Saxo Bank of Denmark, said the general manager of the team.

Bjarne Riis said he will replace Andy Schleck as the leader of the team, in a press conference celebrated in Copenhagen.

 “I feel satisfied and honored of have brought Alberto Contador to our team for the next year. It was an opportunity that looked to be impossible, and we could make the deal ", said Riis                

 Alberto Contador’s new team will be called Sungard Saxo Bank. The financial institution which was giving the name to the previous team will take Sungard's as the other sponsor. Sungard is one of the leaders of software of the world and the companies of services of technology.

 “I am waiting for the new challenge of working and cooperating with Alberto Contador. It is a great cyclist, and I expect him to become even better. We still have to see all his potential, and he is going to shine more in this team than in his former team, Astana ", indicated Riis.

 Riis also commented that the negotiations with Contador developed in the last months. This period included the three weeks of the Tour of France too, when they reached an agreement. He said that deal was almost totally, and finally we reach the definitive deal for two years.

Contador took the decision of not to continue Astana after winning his third Tour de France. He thought about the offer of Riis's team the strongest and the one that offers him major sports guarantees. He needed a little time to choose it.

"I feel especially motivated. I believe I have chosen the best option, and I trust in Riis to construct a great team in 2011. I am already impatient to initiate this adventure with a new team and a few sponsors which have trusted in me. I want to demonstrate they were not wrong", said Contador.

This is a great move for Alberto, upon if some of his teammates go with him. Navarro, Noval, Tiralongo, Hernandez and De la Fuente would probably sign with Saxo Bank, because they are good friends of Alberto. He has also worked with them for years, and the team will be better.

With these accords, Saxo Bank will have very likely the strongest roster of all the teams. It’s going to be difficult that anyone can beat Contador on the Tour de France.
