Favre, nor the Vikings, sent out a press release regarding the decision. Head coach Brad Childress said in the team press conference he has not heard from Favre that he is retiring.
Can that mean that Favre isn't retiring? According to a family member of Favre, a decision has not been made.
According to the Sun Herald, a Mississippi newspaper, a source has confirmed that family members have said that Brett Favre is still uncertain about the upcoming season.
“Brett has not made a commitment to play or a decision to return at this point,” the family source said.
“I have heard no truth to that (retirement),” Scott Favre said. “I know he can still play and I want him to keep playing.”
