Brett Favre Informs the Minnesota Vikings He Will Retire

Tony SantorsaAug 3, 2010

Reports from ESPN have stated that Brett Favre has informed the Minnesota Vikings that he is retiring.

To many, this news is shocking. Favre had surgery on his ankle, and spent quite a bit of time working out, so most expected Favre to return to the Vikings.

I am in shock right now, but I suppose I'd have been shocked whenever Favre announced his retirement.

Favre will be remembered as one of the toughest quarterbacks in NFL history with such a bold, dirt dog attitude. He made Green Bay relevant for years, and gave Packer fans something to watch. And he also brought success, a Super Bowl win in the 1996-'97 season.

Favre holds the NFL record of 285 starts in a row, and that will be the most memorable aspect of Favre's legacy. That legacy is a great one.

Brett Favre was an 11 time Pro-Bowler, three time NFL MVP, and was a part of the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team. He has had one truly decorated career.

Nothing is official, but Farve's reported retirement has already been felt in Las Vegas. At the MGM Grand, the Vikings were 6-1 odds to win the Super Bowl, now they're 10-1.

As I said, nothing is official yet, and I will not believe it until Favre has a press conference. But still, then, I guess I won't believe it. I still have a gut feeling that Brett Favre is not done, although reports say he is.
