Peter Forsberg Eyeing The NHL Comeback

Joseph TrentonAug 3, 2010

Aug.3, 2010--Veteran C Peter Forsberg, "Foppa" is preparing himself for a brand new career in the National Hockey League this season. With reports early Monday on twitter, the Hart Trophy winner in 2003 now skates with hometown team MoDo in hopes of returning to where his career has once dazzled.

Knowing the history current Leafs Assistant General Manager, former Canucks GM, Dave Nonis had with Forsberg, it is not out of the realm of possibility that a rising team like Toronto Maple Leafs wouldn't be at the very least "knocking on the door" sort of speak. Back in 2008, the Swede ended up playing 9 games with the Colorado Avalanche scoring an impressive 14 points during that stretch. Having the record of attracting key Swedish free agents like Jonas Gustavsson and Rickard Wallin, Brian Burke and Dave Nonis should be keeping the phone lines and air tickets busy. Look for as many as 8-10 suitors for Peter Forsberg once he and his agent confirms his intentions to return to the NHL.

To note, back in February, Peter Forsberg participated in the Olympics for Sweden registering 1 assist in 4 tournament games. On Feb.18, reporters asked Foppa if he is planning on coming back to North America for one more run, he declined saying, "No right now, no."

Six months have passed, and for hockey players, it is time to lace up the skates and begin warming up for a brand new season. For Peter Forsberg, he wants another crack at being a dominant force in the best league in the world.

One interesting piece of information: Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren was busy trying to persuade his former Flyer from 2007 to rejoin his team prior to the NHL trade deadline on March 3. However, on March 2, Forsberg turned down the offer. At that time, the Flyers probably didn't even know they were going to the Stanley Cup Finals with Chicago.

Who knows where they could have been if Foppa was there...
