NFL Predictions for 2010 Season: Jets Are the Most Overrated Team

Tony SantorsaAug 2, 2010

First off, I'd like to ask why do so many people think so highly of this New York Jets team?

Yes, they made a run to the AFC Title game last year against the Indianapolis Colts, but a lot of people keep forgetting one thing: Week 16 against the Colts, the game that gave the Jets a playoff birth.

The Jets should of not been in the playoffs last year. They won a game against a Colts' team that had back-up quarterback, Curtis Painter, leading the team.

No one ever remembers that game, and no one ever realizes that's why the Jets made the playoffs.

Yes, the Jets are stacked on defense. They have one of the elite defense's in the league.

But, on the other side of the ball, they're mediocre, if that.

The Jets are led by Mark Sanchez, he is very young, and does have potential. But, right now, he's average, at best.

In his rookie season, he had the help of a great defense and a very strong running game led by Thomas Jones, who is not a Jet anymore.

Sanchez threw 12 touch downs his rookie season while throwing 20 interceptions. Yes, he was a rookie, but Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco didn't have those numbers their rookie seasons.

Let's take a look at the Jets' off-season. Well, they lost their premiere running back because they didn't want to pay him in Thomas Jones, and replaced them with back on the decline in LaDainain Tomlinson.

That is a major down-grade. Yes, the Jets have potiential in young running back Shonn Greene, but what has he done?

He most likely isn't ready to take the load as the number one back, and he only broke 100 yards once last season against the terrible Oakland Raiders.

Shonn Greene against divisional rivals New England and Miami; terrible. He rushed for 24 yards, and both the Patriots and the Dolphins had average run defenses last season.

Mark Sanchez on the other hand, threw nine interceptions against the AFC East last season and only 48.6 percent of his passes. That's way below average.

Yeah, Sanchez was a rookie, but he has shown no signs of success against teams that you have to beat (AKA: your divisional rivals).

Listen everyone, the New York Jets are all hype built up over their defense and Darrelle Revis, who is still holding out.

If the Jets want to be the team to beat in the AFC East, then Sanchez will have to stop throwing four interceptions to the New England Patriots.
