UFC on Versus 2 Play-by-Play: Mark Munoz (8-1) vs. Yushin Okami (25-5)

1st round

John McCarthy gets the fight started, and its on. 

Munoz misses with a wild right hand.  Munoz hits with his next right, although only partially.  Okami grazes Munoz with a right hand, and then ducks out of Munoz's way.  Okami stalks after Munoz, landing a nice left hand to the face of Munoz.  Munoz keeps moving, but gets tagged with a nice combination. 

Munoz misses with a wild head kick, and then gets hit with a nice left hook.  Munoz dives out of the way of a Okami right hand and goes in for the takedown.  Okami defends and stands back in front of Munoz.  Okami gets a left hand through, but Munoz shoots again and gets the takedown this time. 

Munoz stands up and presses Okami against the octagon fence, peppering him with knees and short punches.  Munoz moves and goes in for a single leg takedown, but Okami defends and tags him with a right hand followed by a knee to the body.  Munoz drops down and goes for the takedown, but cant get it and the round ends.  (Okami 10-9)

2nd round

John McCarthy gets the 2nd round going and Okami goes back to stalking Munoz.  Munoz is changing levels, going from low to high.  He hits Okami with a kick to the body that echos throughout the arena. 

Munoz gets one of Okami’s legs and goes to work on a takedown.  Okami gets in good position and spends some time defending it.  They break loose and stand back up.  Okami goes in and Munoz catches him and puts him in a body lock. 

They seperate again, and Munoz drops Okami with a left hand.  Okami recovers quickly and gets a takedown.  Munoz gets up and goes after a hurt Okami. 

Okami stands in front and doesnt back down, but Munoz is landing consistent punches.  Munoz shoots in for another takedown, but Okami defends and presses Munoz against the octagon fence.  Okami stands up and pushes Munoz back down, landing punches along the way. 

Okami stays busy while defending, peppering Munoz body with punches.  Munoz doesnt give up on the takedown and continues to work for it.  Munoz almost converts the takedown, and does with a second remianing in the round.  (Munoz 10-9)

3rd round

The final round is off with both fighters landing some strikes.  Okami hits Munoz with a left hand, but Munoz answers with a left of his own.  Munoz misses a takedown and Okami jumps in a takes his head.  He lets go and gets up where he hits Munoz with several combinations. 

Munoz has his back against the fence, but pushes out and gets some seperation.  Munoz drops down and goes in for the takedown.  Okami defends and stands back up.  Munoz misses a right and falls to the ground where Okami jumps on top. 

Okami gets up and backs away from Munoz as he throws some wild punches.  Okami pushes a right hand in Munoz face.  Munoz fights back and lands a hard right.  Okami lands a double left making Munoz shoot for the leg once again.  Okami seems to have this one defended again and hits Munoz in the body with some strikes. 

Munoz doesnt give up on the takedown, but he may be running out of time.  Okami punches him in the side as he continues to work for the takedown.  Okami finishes the round standing up with Munoz in a head lock.  (Okami 10-9)

Official Decision—Okami split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
