Marquez vs. Diaz 2: Another Overrated Golden Boy Production

Bill CodyJul 31, 2010

Once again, an outclassed fighter got his butt kicked.

I'll give the powers that be in boxing one thing. They sure do know how to hype these non-fights. "A rematch of last year's Fight of the Year."

Oh, puleeze! Last year's fight of the year was Paul Williams-Sergio Martinez.

Whether it's Manny Pacquiao versus Cotto or Clotty, Mayweather against Marquez or Mosley, or tonight's Marquez-Diaz fraud they still get people to buy this garbage.

These fights were never in doubt. Diaz got thumped the first time, and he got thumped tonight.

It's time boxing fans fought back. We need to stop buying this garbage.

Anyone who thought Diaz had a chance tonight didn't really watch the first Diaz-Marquez fight, IMHO. That fight wasn't close.

Same with the Mayweather-Mosley fight. Mosley hadn't one a legit big fight in ten years and they hyped that fight like Sugar Shane had a chance. He had no chance.

Well, he had one very slight chance. A puncher's chance. When he couldn't pull the trigger in the second round he was done. It was Ernie Shavers versus Ali.

Same with Clotty and Cotto against Pacquiao. Too slow, too scared.

Marquez, as good as he is, isn't a Welterweight. He never will be, which is why he had no chance against Mayweather. That fight was a fraud as well.

The only fight that was worth a PPV buy in the last year was  the aforementioned Williams versus Martinez. And guess what, that fight was on HBO for free.

This is why boxing is struggling again.

It's sad. A couple of years ago the fights were great and the future was bright.

Hopefully, the PPV totals for this fiasco were terrible. Hopefully Golden Boy lost their shirt.

Otherwise the powers that be in boxing will keep feeding fight fans leftover spam and slipping them a check for filet mignon.
