2010 NFL Season Preview: Top 10 Questions Heading Into This Season
With the 2010-2011 NFL season set to kickoff right around the corner, there are various headlines buzzing around the league. Whether it be how a particular team will fare this year, or how a certain rookie will transition to the pros, there are several questions swirling in our minds.
Therefore, here are the top 10 questions heading into this season.
How Will The Offseason Losses Impact The Arizona Cardinals?
1 of 10
Over the offseason, the Cardinals lost QB Kurt Warner, WR Anquan Boldin, FS Antrel Rolle, and MLB Karlos Dansby, four of their best players.
In order to compensate, they added safety Kerry Rhodes and outside linebacker Joey Porter. Both should be able to fill those respective voids.
Moreover, the Cardinals still have Larry Fitzgerald, who is arguably the best receiver in the league, as well as Steve Breaston and Early Doucet. Therefore, they should be able to overcome Boldin's absence.
The real issue lies at quarterback, where Matt Leinart will replace future Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. So far, Leinart has failed to meet his high expectations as a former No. 10 overall pick. It will be interesting to see if he can handle the starter duties.
Will The Raiders Roster Changes Also Change Their Fate?
2 of 10
The Raiders, one of the more pitiful NFL teams in recent history, made some significant changes to their franchise.
They had a surprisingly reasonable draft. They wisely spent their first two picks upgrading their porous run defense, and added quality depth to the rest of their roster.
More importantly, they finally admitted their mistake by releasing former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell. Arguably the biggest draft bust ever will be replaced by veteran Jason Campbell.
As a result, I'm confident that they will break their seven-season streak of 11 or more losses.
What Impact Will Tim Tebow Have In His Rookie Campaign?
3 of 10
Tim Tebow, the most decorated player in college football, was selected with the No. 25 overall pick in this year's draft by the Denver Broncos.
However, many are skeptical as to whether or not he will make a fluid transition to the pro game due to his shaky mechanics.
Since he was a first-round pick, though, there is pressure for him to make a high impact. Whether or not he can do so will be an intriguing thing to keep a look out for.
Which Albert Haynesworth Will We See?
4 of 10
When the Washington Redskins signed defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to a record breaking seven-year, $100 million contract last year, they believed they were acquiring arguably the most dominant defensive player in the league.
However, ever since he joined the club, he's simply proved to be what I refer to him as a $100 Million Mistake.
Despite not showing any signs of changing, it will be interesting to see if his play on the gridiron improves. If not, his tenure in Washington will most likely be over.
How Will Chris Johnson Play This Year?
5 of 10
Last season, Chris Johnson had a record-breaking 2,509 yards from scrimmage. Now, he wants to be paid accordingly.
If history repeats itself, as it usually does, he's in store for a major dip in production.
To make matters even worse, he's spent the entire offseason disgruntled with his contract situation.
Putting that all into consideration, will his performance be affected?
How Will Roethlisberger's Suspension Affect The Pittsburgh Steelers?
6 of 10
The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a major hit to their franchise over the offseason when both Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes faced off-the-field issues.
As a result, Holmes was traded to the New York Jets in exchange for a fifth round pick and Roethlisberger was suspended for four to six games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
Sure, those games will be tougher to win without their star quarterback. However, are matters more serious than that? Will this inflict their organization internally?
While I believe they will overcome it, we have seen similar instances in the past.
Are The New York Jets A One-Year Wonder?
7 of 10
After squeezing into the playoffs, the New York Jets had a cinderella-like run all the way to the AFC Championship Game.
Now, with the additions they've made during the offseason, they are widely considered as potential Super Bowl contenders.
However, will that really be the case, or will they be yet another example of a one-year wonder?
How Will The Donovan McNabb Trade Shakeup The NFC East?
8 of 10
The Philadelphia Eagles traded their long-time quarterback Donovan McNabb to the division rival Washington Redskins this offseason.
It's truly amazing how big of an impact that trade will make.
In my mind, that move eliminates the Eagles as playoff contenders, still isn't enough for the Redskins to get over the hump, will make it easier for the Giants to have a rebound season, and makes the Cowboys the clear favorite to keep the division crown.
On the other hand, should we anticipate a Favre-Rodgers move, where Kolb would prove to be a legitimate franchise quarterback?
Regardless, it will be very enticing to see how the entire scenario plays out.
Will Brett Favre Return And Lead The Vikings To The Super Bowl?
9 of 10
Brett Favre, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, is heading into his 20th season in the NFL . That is, of course, if he returns.
So far, while he hasn't participated in team-related activities, he has been going through his normal preparatory routine.
That aside, will he be able to lead the Vikings to the Super Bowl?
Two of the last three years, he's been one interception away from possibly leading his teams (Packers in '07 and Vikings in '09) to the big game.
Is this the year he finally gets it done?
Super Bowl Hangover?
10 of 10
Due to the tremendous talent all across the league, it's very rare to see the two Super Bowl teams repeat their success the following season.
The Colts seem to always be in contention with Peyton Manning at the helm, yet only three of the past 10 Super Bowl losers have made it to the playoffs the succeeding year.
Meanwhile, the Saints return the majority of their roster. However, many aren't even considering them a top three team in recent power rankings. Moreover, teams such as the Cowboys, Packers, and Vikings will give them a strong push for their money.
Therefore, are we in store for a Super Bowl hangover?
While I don't think so, let's just wait and see.
