MORA BLASTS MAYWEATHER AND PUTS MOSLEY ON NOTICE

FightHypeJul 29, 2010

“I thank God that I’m not Floyd. Floyd is who he is and I’m who I am. We are two separate fighters,” stated former jr. middleweight champion Sergio Mora, who contacted FightHype.com to blow off some steam after feeling insulted by comments made about him regarding his upcoming September 18 clash with Shane Mosley. Specifically, Mora is referring to statements made by Mayweather’s uncle, Jeff Mayweather, who insinuated that becaue Mora lacks the skill level of Floyd, he’ll have a rough night against Mosley.

“Sergio Mora is not Floyd. Shane gonna beat Sergio Mora’s ass. Stylistically, it’s not a good fight, but you gotta realize that Sergio Mora can’t come nowhere fucking close to Floyd’s ability,” Jeff Mayweather would explain in a separate interview. “Believe me, he’s going to get his ass whooped!”

Mora, of course, strongly disagrees with those sentiments. “Jeff Mayweather ain’t Floyd either. The only thing he is known for is getting knocked out by Oscar De La Hoya,” Mora would fire back, defending himself and reminding Mayweather that he too has been just as competitve as Mosley against some of the biggest names in the sport. “Listen, I sparred Fernando Vargas, Terry Norris when I was 16, back in the day David Reid, Antonio Margarito, Alfredo Angulo and James Kirkland, all of those guys, and I put hands on all of them,” Mora stressed. “And if I didn’t put hands on them that particular day, you can bet they didn’t whoop me; it was just an even sparring session. I don’t get my ass whooped.”

Although he may lack punching power, Mora has in fact proven to be a difficult challenge for anyone he faces, including former jr. middleweight champion Vernon Forrest, who he defeated to capture his first world title and ultimately went 1-1 with after 2 fights. Shane Mosley, on the other hand, has 2 losses to the late, great Forrest. It is for that reason why Mora feels extremely confident heading into the September 18 showdown. “I was fortunate enough to go 24 rounds with Vernon and now I’m fortunate enough to have Shane Mosley get in the ring with me…I’m going to be the first Mexican to beat Shane Mosley and I’m excited about that,” Mora added.

As for Jeff Mayweather, Mora had a message for him and it was loud and clear. “Let Jeff Mayweather know to keep my name out of his mouth. He has no middleweights or junior middleweights that can shut my mouth. His nephew is something special, but he’s not and he’s not a special trainer, so tell him to keep my name out of his mouth!”
