Is The Winter Classic Coming To Your City? 5 Hots Spots For Future WC
This is out of the ordinary for me to write about something other than Rangers news/rumors. But seeing how yesterday NHL.com had a lot of information about the Winter Classic, I wanted to have a little fun with this one. Here I go…
1.New Yankee Stadium (NYR V NYI)
Why not? It sounds intriguing, and the NHL would make a huge profit off of it. A NY rivalry taking place outdoors in an already famous Ball Park. I’m not a Baseball fan, at all, but I would definitely go to this game if it is to occur. Just imagine the throw-back jerseys, and guest appearances from long time rivals from both teams. It would be pretty awesome, and was heavily considered before picking Heinz Field. Definitely something the NHL should think about for next season.
2.Dodgers Stadium (LAK V ANA)
From what I’ve heard Dodgers stadium is a pretty historic venue. Why not have two California teams play in an outdoor rivalry match-up? Though NHL hockey seems to be going well in California, it could still use a boost. Imagine the Jerseys that will be worn for this game! I’ve heard that the NHL was considering this, and I think they should continue to consider it for the future. It would be a great event.
3. Minnesota Twins stadium Target Field (MIN V STL)
The stadium looks nice from what I’ve seen on sports center, and the Minnesota Wild could seriously use something like this. I think it would be a great game between two young teams trying to make a playoff push. Minnesota is a hockey area, it deserves a Winter Classic! The Wild could wear beautiful throw-back North Star jerseys, and the Blues could wear uniforms from their first season in the NHL. I don’t know if this has been talked about by NHL officials, but I really think it should be.
4. Citi Field (NYR V NYI)
If the NHL really wants to have a Winter Classic in New York, and the New Yankee Stadium isn’t an option, than why not the other new ballpark in NY? Citi Field had offered to hold this upcoming Winter Classic, but I guess the NHL officials decided not to. As I said before, if the New Yankee Stadium isn’t an option than Citi Field could be.
5. Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden
I know I know it may sound stupid, but it actually might not be a bad idea. In 2009, Ullevi Stadium held a total of 31,114 Swedish Hockey fans thru an outdoor game. Why not have the Stadium filled to watch an NHL regular season game? I didn’t mention any particular match-up on the top, because there are so many possibilities for a game like this. Yes we already have 4 NHL teams play in Europe at the seasons start, but why not add a cool out-door game mid-way through the season? It would really help efforts to spread the NHL throughout Europe. What do you think about the idea?
P.S to anyone wondering. The Slide-Show wasn't working out, so i had to make this an article.
