With Frolov Soon To Be a Ranger, Is It Time To Start Thinking Centers?

Nick PerriJul 27, 2010

Reports came out late last night that the Rangers were close to signing Russian winger Alexander Frolov to a short-term deal. The deal is believed to be finalized sometime Tuesday, so until then we can only imagine what the contract will be like. With Gaborik being our top offensive star, an addition of Frolov would be a boost to both his offense and the Rangers offense. He will also give the Rangers two solid wingers for the top line. But two wingers donโ€™t complete a line. Even with Frolov, the Rangers will need a top line center. There are no big time UFA centers this season, so the Rangers will probably have to acquire one through trade. Two centers that may be on Sathers radar are Brad Richards, and Marc Savard. Itโ€™s no secret that Sather is very interested in acquiring Brad Richards, as he has attempted to acquire him three seasons in a row now. As for Savard, it was reported that the Bruins had offered him to the Rangers before the draft. Whether or not there is still a possibility that the Rangers can acquire Savard, I donโ€™t know. But I do know that Savard is a possibility, and wouldnโ€™t come at such a high price. But back to Brad Richards, the Rangers may have some major interest in acquiring him after this Frolov deal goes down. Adding a playmaking center to a line of Gaborik and Frolov would give the Rangers an extremely powerful offensive line, and there worn down Power-Play will definitely be effective. But what would acquiring Richards cost the Rangers? Iโ€™ve come up with a few potential trade proposals for several centers the Rangers may have interest in. I understand that you may disagree with my offers, and if you do leave a response at the end of the article. Here it goesโ€ฆ
