Why Sheamus Needs To Go Over CLEAN at SummerSlam 2010!

Randy RileyJul 25, 2010

SummerSlam is arguably WWE's second biggest Pay Per View event of the year. With WWE booking currently concentrating on the Nexus angle, I fully expect the 7 on 7 match featuring the Nexus team battling John Cena's dream team to close the show. And with that, I expect the fans to be sent home happy with a win for Cena and company. So, what happens in the WWE Championship match?

I'm sure the match will happen later in the card but regardless, this is a victory that Sheamus needs and will get. A few things are on Sheamus' side for this match...

1. The real person to get the strap off of him will be Triple H, and since he isn't returning for a while considering his recent surgery, it makes sense for Sheamus to keep holding the strap until the inevitable happens and The Game makes his grand return. In fact, Orton is only in this match because The Game is sidelined longer than they expected him to be. Think of Orton as a last minute replacement and last minute replacements do not go over.

2. Sheamus doesn't really have solid PPV title match victories yet. His wins against John Cena were all due to outside interference from the Nexus group- and they won't be helping him out in this match since they have their own feud going on. Sheamus can finally get a clean PPV win against a viable main event opponent.

3. WWE knows how popular Randy Orton is at the moment and having him lose clean doesn't automatically reduce how "over" he is with the WWE Universe. He will still be cheered and the fans will still rally behind him. In other words, The Viper doesn't need the WWE Championship. Sheamus does.

WWE can have Sheamus win clean, look viable against Orton, and still send the fans home happy later in the night. It really is the perfect setup. The only unfortunate thing is that because of WWE booking, this will be yet another check in the loss column for what is becoming a terrible year for The Viper on PPV. So, expect him to look very strong on every episode of RAW before the PPV so that in usual WWE booking 101, Sheamus can go over clean and shock the WWE Universe. It won't be a shock to the IWC though. They know Sheamus needs the victory and they know WWE is all about building those younger stars right now.

Obvious prediction: Sheamus wins clean.
