Ten Sure-Fire First Round Fantasy Picks

Bryan DietzlerJul 23, 2010

If you haven’t done so already you should be preparing for your fantasy football draft.  Hopefully you haven’t drafted just yet because training camp hasn’t started and no one has a clear picture of what is going to happen with their players. It’s always best to wait until the second or third week of August draft your team.

Just a little handy advice.

Now we will focus on the top ten sure-fire players that will be productive and valuable in the first round of your fantasy draft. These guys are guaranteed to be effective—as long as they don’t get hurt this season.

So here they are, in no particular order, the top ten first-round guarantees for your fantasy draft.

1. Drew Brees-QB-New Orleans

You can’t go wrong with Brees. He’s consistently productive and has remained relatively healthy as of late. Taking him in the first round is a must.

2. Peyton Manning-QB-Indianapolis

Like Brees, Manning is always a reliable guy who doesn’t get hurt that much. You can bank on him as a sure-fire first-rounder.

3 . Andre Johnson-WR-Houston Texans

The Texans had the NFL’s best passing offense last season thanks to quarterback Matt Schaub and widereceiver Andre Johnson. Johnson should be able to do it again this season, so grab him when you can.

4. Chris Johnson-RB-Tennessee Titans

Johnson was a 2,000 yard rusher last season and with a holdout now avoided he’s sure to be very productive again. Add him in the first-round if you can and watch the points stack up.

5. Aaron Rodgers-QB-Green Bay Packers

There are many people who are calling him the best quarterback in fantasy football. Why wouldn’t he be? He has great yardage totals and can be a threat both passing and running the ball. He’s definitely worth a first-round pick.

6. Adrian Peterson-RB-Minnesota Vikings

Even with Brett Favre there, Peterson is still one of the best running backs in the NFL.  Taking him in the lower part of the first-round could pay dividends in the future.

7. Tom Brady-QB-New England

Brady always seems to put up good numbers and is almost always a first-round pick in any fantasy draft. Don’t let his lack of receiving talent stop you from making him a first round-pick.

8. Phillip Rivers-QB-San Diego Chargers

Rivers is a sure-fire number one pick and will put up some strong numbers once again in 2010. Take him in the first round if you have a chance.

9.  Matt Schaub-QB-Houston Texans

After being a huge part of the number one passing offense in the NFL, Schaub returns to help lead this offense once again. With the same cast of characters coming back in 2010, Schaub should have another big season in Houston.

10.  Dez Bryant-WR-Dallas Cowboys

You can bet that quarterback Tony Romo is going to throw to Bryant early and often so look for him to have a big year.
