Bank On It: GSM's Predictions For The Money In The Bank PPV
This Sunday, WWE presents its first Money In The Bank pay-per-view, with some mixed reviews (mostly negative).
I've been good at picking matches in the past, but you know how WWE always surprises us, unlike TNA, especially with the MITB Ladder Match.
So let's get started.
Match 1: Alicia Fox (c) vs. Eve (Divas Championship)
Possible Prediction : I still don't understand why WWE put two Divas Matches in one pay-per-view, which is definitely not something they do often. Nonetheless, this match should be the lesser of the two. Why do I say that? It was made at the last minute.
Enough said.
Their match on RAW was horrible and I don't expect this match to be much better. So enough crapping on the match.
Final Prediction : As much I would love for Eve to regain the belt, as she was a decent champion, Alicia will more than likely retain with a clean finish to end the feud. This will probably set up for a return by Melina down the road and a feud between those two.
Anyone else still stumped why Alicia is champion even though she can't wrestle? I am too.
Match 2: Layla (c) vs. Kelly Kelly (Women's Championship)
Possible Prediction : This match has got me a little uncertain on who will win, especially since Beth Phoenix isn't due back for a while.
The main point of Kelly Kelly's move to Smackdown was to be pushed to become Women's Champion, but Layla has no previous defenses and if she retains, there is no one else to defend against (a face I mean).
Final Prediction : Layla might win, as she lost on Friday, and that usually means she wins when it matters most on Sunday.
On the other hand, WWE tends to let the victim of Lay-Cool's tormenting win the title, such as Mickie James and Beth Phoenix before her. My final prediction is that Kelly Kelly will win the title, and later defend it against both members of Lay-Cool down the road.
Match 3: Hart Dynasty (c) vs. The Usos (Unified Tag Team Championships)
Possible Prediction : The outcome of this match is obvious. The Usos have been tormenting The Hart Dynasty and will finally defeat them in the match we've been waiting to see. I would be very surprised to see the feud continue, as I'd say it's run its course.
It's kinda seen that The Usos need more training in the ring and on the mic, but again, I'd be surprised if WWE wanted to surprise us and had them win the titles. That be a very bad move, as the Harts are basically the only good face team in WWE right now.
Final Prediction : The Hart Dynasty retain the titles, and go on the defend the title against SES, The Dudebusters, and Vance Archer and Curt Hawkins.
The Hart Dynasty have been waiting a long time to be champs, so it would be a waste to pull the plug on their reign as they have been great champions.
Match 4: Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Jack Swagger (World Heavyweight Championship)
Possible Prediction : I've been anticipating this match since Swagger's sudden rise to the top and with the momentum that Swagger has gotten, it looks good. The build may not have been perfect, however, since most of the build has been focused on who The Undertaker's attacker has been.
More than likely, it will be Jack Swagger behind the Undertaker's attacking, and honestly, that is a much better choice than Kane since we've seen that match thousands of times before.
Final Prediction : Rey Mysterio to win since he is an underdog champion and has gotten no momentum as champion, and will suddenly win this Sunday.
I don't really see the need for a World Title to be on the line at SummerSlam if Swagger is the attacker.
Mysterio is due for surgery, so it is possible he will lose the title back to Swagger and take time off. For now, I'm putting my money on Mysterio to retain.
Match 5: Sheamus (c) vs. John Cena (Steel Cage for WWE Championship)
Possible Prediction : I know the initial plan was for Shemaus to (probably) retain and go on to defend the title against Triple H in a Grudge Match at SummerSlam.
But since Triple H is out longer than expected due to an injury, it is not so certain Sheamus will retain at Money In The Bank.
Final Prediction : Knowing how WWE books John Cena, I'm going to predict he will be the "superman" he is and fend off the Nexus and defeat Sheamus for the WWE Championship.
This is going to make sense as Wade Barrett has his title shot, and the best place to do it is against Cena at SummerSlam.
Unfortunately, I don't want to see this happen as Sheamus is getting an excellent push and it would be very good for him.
But Cena winning is logical as Sheamus has no one to defend against, as Orton and Edge will more than likely be facing each other at SummerSlam as well.
Match 6: Big Show vs. Kane vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Matt Hardy vs. Christian vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston (Money In The Bank Ladder Match)
Possible Prediction : I've saved the most complicated matches for last. Let's go through each participant and see who does and who doesn't have a chance at winning Money In The Bank:
- Big Show: Basically, he has literally no chance of winning as he can't even climb the actual ladders. The one he used on Smackdown won't be there, and why would he win anyways? I don't see another World Title in his future.
- Kane: It is possible, and one of my top picks to win. Not only is he getting the biggest push in years, but with what happened on Friday, it's possible he could win. The logical course is that if he did win, Swagger would win the title, and then Kane would cash it in that night. This is not my top pick though, as I believe WWE would like to get it on a younger talent.
- Kofi Kingston: Kofi, out of all of the men in this match, is ready for main event for then anyone. However, Kofi is IC Champ at the time, and I heard the winners will be cashing in rather early. Kofi should have his run with MITB and then go to main event. If he didn't have the title, he would be my top choice.
- Cody Rhodes: I see Rhodes as the dark horse in this match, but you never know. Rhodes has become a rising star on Smackdown, but I think he should go through the IC title first before main event to continue his push.
- Matt Hardy: Hardy is one of my favorite veterans on the Smackdown roster, and we all know he will do wonders in the match on Sunday. As I read before, however, Hardy needs to work on his in-ring ability before he can go to main event, but he does have the popularity if he did win it, though.
- Dolph Ziggler: He has definitely improved since his debut, and he should look good in the Ladder Match. As Striker has pointed out time and time again, Ziggler has yet to win a singles title. The World Title would be kind of a long shot, so like Cody Rhodes, he should focus on the IC Title first.
- Christian: He is my favorite to win the MITB, as with a lot of people. I honestly think he doesn't need the briefcase to win a World Title. However, I think it could help him, if he could cash it in on Rey Mysterio and help him turn heel.
- Drew McIntyre: Behind Christian, he is my second pick to win the match. McIntyre has stated in the past that he is a future World Champion, and now would be a perfect time to do it. He still needs some more seasoning though in the ring and get more heat, even though he has improved.
- Randy Orton: Everyone can agree with me when I say that Orton is on a hot streak with this Stone Cold-like attitude and has gained more and more momentum every week. As this is a good reason for him to win, he can win the title without winning the briefcase, and it would be easier for him to continue his feud with Orton without a title on the line.
- Edge: Same goes as above. Edge has already won this match twice before, so why win again when he is already an established main eventer. I know he hasn't held a world title in a while, but he can easily contend for the WWE Championship any night of the year.
- Evan Bourne: I really enjoy this push WWE has been giving Bourne, and I think he needs to go through the U.S. Title before winning it big. Don't get me wrong. He is a future World Champion, but he should win the U.S. Title first to get some experience. And wouldn't be kind of odd to have Bourne and Mysterio reign as World Champion at the same time?
- Chris Jericho: If any of the veterans were to win in this match, it would be Jericho. He has been under-used and desperately needs a World Title. However, I am not going with him since WWE is not happy with Jericho due to his show, but plans could change.
- Ted DiBiase: I originally had my money (no pun intended) put on DiBiase to win the match, but after reading some articles, he is no longer my favorite. It would go excellent with his money gimmick, but I don't think he is ready yet. He has improved, but he would be better if he just built his way up.
- John Morrison: As you may have noticed, Morrison has been doing terribly on RAW, because WWE hasn't used him right. Last summer, he was ready for the World Title. But now is different. His injury doesn't help, but you never know. He should also get the U.S. Title when The Miz is done with it.
- The Miz: He's my favorite to win the match. If he were to win, he could pull off another dual champion thing. Miz is ready by far, and this is the perfect match to do it.
- Mark Henry: No chance in hell. He was a last-minute for R-Truth. He can't climb a ladder. He's only held the ECW Title and the European Title, which doesn't even exist anymore. So why would he win? He can't. He's just a filler for now, so ignore him.
