Should Liverpool FC Swap Mascherano For "New Ronaldo" Mario Balotelli?

Kaustav BoseJul 17, 2010

With the club officially announcing the departure of Emiliano Insua (a strange decision, I must say), going by the most prevailing rumors, it only seems likely that the money would be used to finance a deal for Loic Remy.

However, there have been reports lately that Javier Mascherano, the other Argentine at the club, along with Maxi Rodriguez, is also not really interested in furthering his stay at the Liverpool.

Among Mascherano's suitors are Inter Milan, the present European Champions and Barcelona. With Inter Milan now looking to take pole position in the deal a lot of clauses have been reported in the press lately.

The former Liverpool boss is keen to reunite with his Liverpool find Mascherano, and is ready to offer either Sulley Muntari or Mario Balotelli as a part of cash-plus-player deal.

Now, although Liverpool seem more keen to go for cash in exchange of the player, shouldn't the Balotelli offer be given a second thought? Especially if Liverpool can scalp anything between 8-10m GBP along with the player. For the record, both Liverpool and West Ham have also enquired about Balotelli last summer too, only for the deal to be stalled.

The reason I say so is because most Liverpool FC fans are a little bewildered by the fact that Roy Hodgson, the present boss at the Club, has dug up names which really are not very reputed ones with no major club in suit for the player.

Although I think otherwise, to some extent I agree that this method of measuring a player's potential can be a rough estimate to what that player is percieved of by the best in the business.

With present comments by Sir Alex, who said, "Balotelli could be the next Ronaldo" and also interests from Wenger on the wings, the gamble if taken on seems to be a bold but valiant attempt to get Liverpool a star of the future.

At 19, Balotelli has already been a sensation at Internazionale whenever he has been offered a chance. The sturdy striker also seems to possess every weapon in his armory to be a fearsome forward for any club.

The only other problem with Liverpool FC is that even if such a deal is made, they will have two players in Milan Jovanovic and Mario Balotelli who are not really known to have a great attitude towards the game, and Hodgson would have to be daring to get either of the two to do their best for the club.

Most would remember, that even the great Cristiano Ronaldo was spotted by a Liverpool FC scout. however, the then manager at the club, Gerrard Houllier, thought otherwise as Liverpool missed upon a buy of the decade. Now with Sir Alex Ferguson openly admitting the potential of Balotelli should Liverpool still let go of this precious talent and pay for it like they did earlier?

Javier Mascherano better pick up the phone from Hodgson at the earliest for the summer deal to go through!
