I just knew there would be a headline grabber from the first round of the British Open.
Sure enough, I woke up to John Daly being the Open leader after day one.
Is my Tiger Woods/John Daly reality show coming together before my very eyes?
Let's glance at the leader board and look for my powerhouse foursome for the Open: Woods, Lee Westwood, Retief Goosen, and Justin Rose.
Rory McElroy is your first round leader at nine under par, and only youth and inexperience keep him from being favored to win this great event as the Open progresses.
Still, he is talented and could win this with no problem. But there are too many other good players waiting in the wings to call this one quite yet.
In second place at minus-seven is Louis Oosthuizen. All right, ya got me on that one. Who the heck is that?
I guarantee with undue certainty that this name will not be near the top by Saturday or, heaven forbid, Sunday.
All right, let's see who this is. Oosthuizen is from Mossel Bay. Oh, that helps. He has been a pro since 2002 and made almost $4 million.
So where is Mossel Bay? He has played two events this season with a best finish of 77th at the Masters. Interesting player to be in second place, that's for sure.
In third are Mr. Daly, Andrew Coltart, and Steven Tiley all at minus-six.
Tiger Woods is currently at minus-five and is my A-player this week in fantasy. A great start for Woods in position for a Major win.
Lee Westwood, my B-player, is also at five-under on Day One. That is looking very good for fantasy points this week.
My other B-player is Retief Goosen at a respectable minus-two.
My C-player is Justin Rose, also at minus-two.
This was an extremely nice first day for my Yahoo! Fantasy Golf team, and I am sure to gain ground on the one expert I am trying to pass still.
Collectively my team on day one of the Open is at minus-14. Awesome.
Enjoy the early morning golf on Friday as the players try to make the cut of around even par to plus-one, it looks like.
Until Friday, hoist a Guinness and enjoy the Open.
