Terrell Owens and the Patriots ???
Chris Price at the WEEI Blog has a post today talking about a radio interview where Terrell Owens said heโd be open to playing for the New England Patriots. To me Iโm not shocked Owens is starting to flirt with teams, training camp is about to open up and he doesnโt have a home yet. What gained my attention thou was that he compared himself to one LeBron James.
"โIโm like LeBron. I can go there and take less of a role, take less money and put everything aside and make it work.โ
"
This comment in itself follows up what the Associated Press released yesterday about Terrell Owens. TO told the AP that he was frustrated with the perception of him being trouble and that in Buffalo he proved that could avoid the distractions. And you know what, for the most part he did.

I donโt know how much weight that LeBron statement holds thou. Yea, his contract demands are fairly reasonable heโs only looking for about $5 million next year and if he wants to pull a LeBron he may take slightly less then that to play for a championship.
My doubt in the comment is more cause Iโm not sure how long either player, LeBron or Owens will accept not being the top billing. Iโm not going to go into my thoughts on the James move as this post is about TO and the Pats, but you all get what Iโm thinking heโs going to want his shots no matter what. And you know what even with Randy Moss around Terrell is going to want his targets, no matter what he says.
"โPeople think that they have that perception about me. Of course. Any receiver โฆ what receiver thatโs out there thatโs had great stats, great careers that didnโt want the ball? Iโm no different,โ Owens said. โBut of course โ I mean, youโve got Brady there. Youโve got the great mind, coach Belichick.
"
That quote right there can be taken in two ways. The first is his raving of Brady and Belichick, heโs willing to temper his attitude to play with two greats and win a championship but at the same time he tells you he does want the ball heโs a great. And in my opinion as long as heโs making comments like that he wonโt change.
In Buffalo no one watched, with New England every game is under a microscope, everyone in the country sees their highlights and hears all the news. If Owens doesnโt see himself in the highlight reel for a game or two, will he be able to refrain from speaking up? Iโm not sure about that.
Iโm sure Belichick has plenty of doubts about adding the guy himself but you know what I wouldnโt be surprised if him and his group are kicking around the idea. Belichick has never shied away from signing a player with an ego, all he cares about is winning and will do whatever it takes if the cost is right.
If Owens comes with the right dollar amount, I could easily see Bill making a deal. I really doubt Owens and the Patriots become a reality, but you know what there is that slim possibility.
