NHL Buzz: Saturday, July 10th
There is a lot of talk around the NHL right now; here is the latest.
According to the NY Post, the New Jersey Devils have offered Ilya Kovalchuk a 17 year contract extension worth over $100 million. The offer is believed to pay him $100 million in the first 10 years and then drop down to 1-2 million in the final 7.
Since the LA Kings are now out of the Kovalchuk frenzy they are looking elsewhere to add a LW. Rumor has it they are interested in Simon Gagne.

It is also worth noting that if the Flyers can't move Gagne he may be placed on waivers, if that is the case the Maple Leafs will take a serious look at him.
The Phoenix Coyotes are looking for a shut down defenseman to replace Michalek, rumor has it Willie Mitchell is a target.
As you know the Sharks offered Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson a 4 year offer sheet worth $14 million. The Blackhawks are looking at all options because if they match this offer, it looks like they will lose someone else....maybe Antti Niemi?
It is believed that a few teams are talking with Lee Stempniak right now, the Coyotes are among them and would love Stempniak to return.
The Wild are looking for a reasonably priced depth forward with some scoring punch, rumor has it they are interested in Miroslav Satan but I can't confirm this.
