Ilya Kovalchuk Update: Friday, July 9

Todd CordellCorrespondent IJuly 9, 2010

Here is the latest on the never ending Ilya Kovalchuk soap opera.

According to Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo! Sports, Ilya Kovalchuk's mother spoke to the media about her son and said, "I want my son to play in the NHL. Because to play in the best league was always his dream."

Like I have said countless times I think he will stay in New Jersey.

If Kovalchuk does indeed stay in the NHL his only real option for a long term big money deal is in New Jersey, LA will give him huge term but only at $6.5 mil per season which is believed to be at least $1 million less than what New Jersey is offering.

I believe Kovalchuk will finally sign in the next few days and once again, I believe it will be in New Jersey.
