Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather: Money Wins if They Fight After November 13

Colin LinneweberJul 8, 2010

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said Wednesday that representatives for Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao and "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather have agreed to fight November 13 at a location to be determined.

Arum, Pacquiao's corruptible and loathsome promoter, did not divulge details regarding drug testing or earnings for the potential bout.

However, Arum did say Mayweather must officially commit to the lucrative matchup by mid-July or Pacquiao will seek an alternate opponent.

"This really depends, as I see it, on whether Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao," said Arum, who admitted during a 2000 federal trial that he bribed the International Boxing Federation president to bolster the ranking of one of his fighter's. "By mid-July, he's either in or out. We're not going to wait forever. We're going to have a fight on November 13 and we would love it to be Mayweather."

Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs), the first fighter to ever win seven titles in seven different weight classes, is a likable man and exciting pugilist.

Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), who has captured nine crowns in five divisions, is a scorching hemorrhoid whose defensive wizardry often creates boring contests.

Granted, Mayweather has an obsession with his unblemished mark and perhaps he is dodging Pacquiao to maintain it.

However, there are forty-million reasons why such a scenario is unlikely.

"Who wouldn't allow limitless tests for $40 million unless they had something to hide," wondered Brad Sherwood, a South Boston resident who works as a personal trainer at Gold's Gym Medford.

Pacquiao needs to accept any drug testing Mayweather demands to ensure that a battle for the ages occurs in four months.

Blood testing is not in any capacity similar to donating blood and it is irresponsible and naive for Pacquiao to claim otherwise.

It is fair to contend "Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao."

It is equally justified to question why Pacquiao is so hesitant to accept any requested form of drug testing whatsoever.

This past May, Pacquiao was elected as a member of House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines.

Pacquiao has many ambitions beyond the squared circle.

Conversely, Mayweather only cares about his wealth, legacy and boxing.

If Pacquiao and Mayweather don't battle imminently, it's possible "Pac-Man's" passion for boxing will steadily erode.

Should that happen, Pacquiao will be defeated for the first time since he lost to Erik Morales via unanimous decision in March 2005.
