Why New York Rangers Should Make a Move For Marc Savard and Sheldon Souray
Why the Rangers SHOULD make a move for Savard, and Souray
I’m sure we’ve all heard the Rumors flying about around that Sheldon Souray may come to the Rangers, are the rumor that the Bruins offered Savard to the Rangers. To me, I think at least one of these rumors should become a reality. So, throughout the rest of this article, I will make a plan A (consisting of a Sheldon Souray trade), and a plan B (consisting of a Marc Savard trade). Before I do this, I would like my readers to know that this is based fully on my opinion, and at the end leave a comment on your opinion. Thank you, and enjoy.

Plan A: We all know who Sheldon Souray is. We also all know what Souray is capable of doing when he is healthy (a 23 goal season, two seasons ago). I think he would be great playing in New York alongside Gaby on the Power-play. I would like to share with you a rumor that I came in contact with, thanks to one of my friends who knows a person, who works with TSN. Rumor has it that the Oilers offered Sheldon Souray and the negotiating rights to Andrew Cogliano, for Wade Redden and the negotiating rights to Dan Girardi. If this is true, and if I were Slats, this deal would be done in a heartbeat! If you break this trade, the Rangers will come out as winners.
1. We get rid of Redden and his $6.5 million contract.
2. We bring in Sheldon Souray, who when healthy is a huge asset to a Power-play (not to mention he makes $.8 million dollars less than Redden, as his contract awards him $5.7 million a year)
3. We bring in a young, speedy forward who we can sign for about $1.5-2 million for about 2 years.
4. Losing Girardi means our main RFA is Marc Staal, and we can focus much more on him (Who we now know isn’t liking what the Rangers are offering)
So those are just some reasons why this offer, if true, should be a no-brainer.
Plan B: Honestly, what were the Rangers thinking when they got rid of Savard back in 2000? He has become one of the best playmaking centers in the league. When hearing from my friend that the Bruins offered Marc to the Rangers, I thought this was again, a no-brainer. Rumor has it that the Bruins offered Marc Savard to New York, in exchange for Mike Rozsival. Now before you all go saying “No way!” think about it and this trade would actually make sense. The Rangers are looking for a top line Center to play with Gaby, and the Bruins are looking for a top 4 defenseman. The Rangers would also free up $1million of cap space in this deal, as Rozsival makes $5million and Savard $4million. I think this would be another “win” deal for the Rangers.
So there it is. Now I know some people will disagree with me, and hopefully some of you will actually agree with me. But I think this would really help the Rangers. Instead of diving into FA and signing unneeded players, Sather would be trading away unneeded players for players that could be key assets to the Rangers. Thank you for the read, and please leave a comment below stating what you think.
