Marc Savard: Why Would the Boston Bruins Trade Him?

Tony SantorsaJun 27, 2010

As of the past week, there have been many rumors and speculations that the Boston Bruins are shopping their top point scorer, Marc Savard.

I'm not too sure how accurate the rumors are, but I just don't understand why they would want to trade Savard.

I realize that the Bruins selected Tyler Seguin, a center, with the second pick of the entry draft, but that doesn't mean that the B's have to part ways with any of their top centers.

The Bruins are loaded up the middle, it's one of their strong points. While I was watching the NHL Entry Draft, the announcers kept saying how the Bruins need to move one of their centers. I think that's just stupid. I feel like the announcers have no idea what they are talking about, and no wonder why they work for TSN and Versus. They even mentioned the Bruins trading Seguin, or not even selecting Segiun; was that supposed to be a joke?

Of all of the centers on the Bruins' roster, why would they want to deal away Savard? Yeah, he's got probably the most value and a very flexiable contract, but he's still a great player.

Boston doesn't even have to trade any of their centers. It seems that a lot of people keep neglecting to realize that Seguin can play winger or center. He's a young and athletic kid and he's played those positions before.

As I've been listening to local radio stations, 98.5 the Sports Hub, and WEEI, callers and hosts have been mentioning how Savard isn't "tough." Yeah, in a way I can see what they mean; he is a finesse offensive player, but that doesn't mean he's soft.

Early in the 2008 season, in a game against the Dallas Stars, one of the B's players got "blasted" up against the boards and Savard was the first player to come running in and started pounding on the Stars' player. If that's not tough, then I don't know what is.

Savard is a great player, probably one of the best 15 forwards in the league. He's had close to 100 points in every season he's played here in Boston. He's a great player and a great leader. I don't think it's a good idea to move the man.

Savard makes his teammates better. He's someone you can build around.
