Who Will Be The NFLs 2010 Suprise Stars
Each year a new group of stars explode on to the NFL scene. Players like Peyton Manning , Ray Lewis & Larry Fitzgerald are givens. The guys this article wants to focus on is the surprise stars. From the guy who is finally getting healthy to the guy who just got a change of scenery Every year the NFL has a new set of guys who have found their game again or maybe exploded on to the scene for the first time. For example, Randy Moss as a Raider was not the fit that put him in the spotlight.. Once the Patriots & Tom Brady found Randy Moss, a star was reborn. In some cases there are players who have a breakout year and find NFL stardom for the first time. I would say Sidney Rice fits this bill. Others include Ray Rice , Lawrence Timmons, Reggie Bush and the list goes on. Rookie stars like Brian Cushing , Michael Oher or Percy Harvin shine like seasoned pros, but which rookies will be the breakout guys of 2010. No name is out of the realm of possibility. I think Joshua Cribbs, Chris Horton & even Brent Celek all would say you are entitled to your opinion. I would like to hear it. So all that said, let's start with the "Eagles Breakout Players". T.E Cornelius Ingram has some of the ingredients to be one of these breakout players but Celek might keep him off the field this year. Maybe 2011 will be Ingram's year. I'm going with Lesean McCoy as the breakout player for 2010. The reasons for McCoy are 1] he is a 2nd year guy & they are always a good bet. 2]He showed flashes last year. 3] Kolb's accuracy should help in a RAC area and last, I think the check down could be a big part of this offense. On "D", Ernie Simms is my guy. I think Simms falls into that "Change Of Scenery" category. Simms was and still is in my opinion a tackling machine. He also is a great cover LB on the weakside. This, I believe will land him a Pro Bowl appearance. Next, there are a couple of guys who find themselves in a great situation. Dolphins quaterback Chad Henne is one. He has a new toy - Brandon Marshall. Brandon Marshall is the weapon every QB dreams of. This combined with the Dolphin running game should allow Henne to build on what I felt was the beginning of a promising career . Henne will reap the benefits of both these things. The fact is, I liked what I was seeing from Henne before these additions. My pick for a defensive 2010 star is a ticked off USC LB Rey Maualuga. Maualuga looked like a guy who had something to prove before he got injured in November. Up until that point I loved this player. In 2010 I believe Malauga plays like a man possessed. If Maualuga crushes ball carriers the way he did at USC and in the first 2 months of 09, he will get his fair share of highlights in 2010. How about the "Off The Beaten Track Guy" . These are the guys who make everyone else say,"Is this guy nuts?" That guy stinks. Or they just say "who the hell is he". My first pick for this guy is a kid who has taken a major beating in the press. Taylor Mays, the USC Free Safety is a great FS in my opinion. All his flaws were easy coaching fixes, and I believe he was the best, yeah the best FS in the draft. I also believe he aims to prove it. Mays tends to over play balls. He plays the run & pass better while trailing. This will be fixed by Singletarys staff, and Singletary knows what kind of player he wants. I might be a year early. Maybe Mays doesn't catch on til mid season but when he does a lot of people will be eating crow. Another guy I like is Devon Hester. He's had a couple of years to adjust to his role as a wide receiver. If Mike Martz and Cutler do their job, Hester could have a tremendous season. Last, Fresno running back Ryan Matthews has landed in the best situation possible. It is obvious the Chargers will use him. This situation fits like a glove. If you look at another Running Back like Clemsons C.J. Spiller, you'll see that luck can play a major part in a players career. Chan Galey & the Buffulo Bills are not the fit that Spiller hoped for but he has no choice . Spiller could be a beat up RB before his career ever gets off the ground. These are just a few of my predictions for this years breakout stars, but I'm actually more interested in yours. Who are your home team guys? Who are your other NFL suprises?
