Strikeforce Fedor vs. Werdum: Will the Last Emperor be Dethroned?
Saturday Night StrikeForce Preview
This weekend San Jose California is buzzing with excitement as they will play host to MMA action on Saturday Night. This Strikeforce and M-1 Global co-promoted event offers a fully loaded card with the main event featuring the sport’s No. 1 heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko.
Here are the latest odds from BroburySports.com.
Fedor Emelianenko (-600) vs. Fabricio Werdum
Cung Le (-290) vs. Scott Smith
Josh Thomson (-500) vs. Pat Healy
Cris Cyborg (-1500) vs. Jan Finney
Fedor Emelianenko is the one of the most powerful players in MMA and always demands top billing. The strong Russian last fought American Brett Rogers in November, getting a TKO win (Punches) in Round 2. He has not lost in ten years and on Saturday night, he will face a tough opponent in Fabricio Werdum.
Fabricio Werdum brings experience and has been a top-10 MMA heavyweight over the last five years. His last fight was a unanimous decision over Antonio Silva in November.
Werdum will look to beat Emelianenko with his ground game that when applied correctly can have devastating effects. He is an expert at Brazilian jiu-jitsu and will provide a worthy opponent on Saturday night.
Emelianenko will have to counter with persistence and wait for his shot to end Werdum. Emelianenko has the strength and the power to knock an opponent out with one solid punch and that is what makes him so dangerous and such a huge favorite.
Emelianenko is just too big and strong and may get a challenge from Werdum, but in the end Emelianenko will be victorious.
The card on Saturday night is full of great fights to include the matchup between Cung Le and Scott Smith. In his last fight Le lost to Smith and this was the first loss in the MMA career for the former kickboxing champion. He dominated most of the bout but Smith shocked the world and won. After the fight, Le demanded a rematch and got it for this Saturday. Look for Le to be focused and come out and get his revenge!
The women square off on the same card as Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos takes on Jan Finney. Cyborg is clearly the better fighter of the two and is a big favorite. Finney would stun the MMA world if she were to take down the Cyborg on Saturday night.
The last battle on this kick-ass card is Josh Thompson taking on Pat Healy. Thompson is looking to rebound after surrendering the Strikeforce Lightweight Championship. Pat Healy stands in his way and will provide a good challenge.
The entire card on Saturday night is chock full of great fights and is a must see event for the diehard fight fan.
